The 1990s represent a distinct era in television history. This is the case for many shows, but especially “The Nanny,” which starred Fran Drescher, Charles Shaughnessy, Lauren Lane, and Daniel Davis. Recently, some of the cast and crew from the beloved show reunited and posed for a picture.
Frescher took to Instagram on September 12 to post the picture in question. It included the co-creator of the series, Peter Marc Jacobson, a few producers, and Shaughnessy, who played Maxwell Sheffield. It features them all seated at a dinner table.
She captioned the post, “Out 4 sup w/ mr sheffield and the EPs of The Nanny. A gr8 nite indeed!”
There Have Been Talks of a Reboot for ‘The Nanny’
Nowadays, many fan-favorite shows are getting new life with reboots. Notably, discussions about a reboot for “The Nanny” have been ongoing for several years. Drescher spoke to Deadline in 2019 about the idea.
While she didn’t go into specifics, she stated that she does have ideas about what a new version of the beloved series could be. However, Frescher did say that there was a chance it would feature a younger cast. Still, there has been no movement on the “Nanny” reboot for television.
Despite that, there is still hope for fans that there could be a new version of “The Nanny.” Frescher was interviewed by Rolling Stone in 2025 and confirmed that a Broadway version is still in the works, after having mentioned it several years prior.
She said, “I’m writing another book, but I keep getting sidetracked. ‘Cause now we’re writing the Nanny musical [for Broadway].” After being asked about it having been on hold, Drescher stated, “It was. There were too many creative differences, and that’s OK.”
She went on, “It happens. No hard feelings. And now, [ex-husband and show co-creator] Peter Marc Jacobson and I are starting it up again by ourselves.”
The interviewer then asked who would be producing the music. The “Nanny” alum responded, “I don’t even know if I’m speaking out of school. I’m worried that I’ve already said too much. We’ll do that interview at another time. Let’s not talk about that! I don’t wanna get in trouble!”
Drescher Is In a New Movie
Drescher may be most known for starring in “The Nanny,” but she remains pretty busy these days. Not only is she the President of SAG-AFTRA, but she’s also in a new movie, “Spinal Tap II: The End Continues.” It arrives in movie theaters on September 12.
According to IMDb, she will also appear in the Timothée Chalamet-led “Marty Supreme.” It’s set for release on December 25.
