Just days after the “Dawson’s Creek” reunion, Kerr Smith — who played Jack McPhee on the hit ’90s show — has posted about the new book he’s writing. Beyond that, he’s invited fans to be in on the process.
“✨ It’s been a wild ride since Capeside. I’m writing a book that dives into my journey and all things Dawson’s Creek — and I want to bring you along for it,” Smith wrote in the caption of an Instagram post that he shared on Thursday, September 25.
He then added how fans can do just that, writing, “📩 Subscribe to get behind-the-scenes updates and be the first to know when it’s ready.”
Kerr Says Writing the Book Has Brought Back Memories
In order to prepare for his book, Kerr delved back into the world of “Dawson’s Creek.”
“I’ve watched the pilot multiple times this year. I’m in the middle of writing a book on my journey through Dawson’s Creek, so it’s been nothing but Dawson’s Creek for me all year long,” Smith told Us Weekly. “It brings back a lot of memories.”
He also revealed that watching the show nowadays make him emotional. “Even at 53 years old, the show still makes me cry,” he said. “It’s every bit as good as it was back then for me.”
“It’s my first time writing a book, so it’s a lot of work. But it’s been fun to revisit everything and rewatch a lot of the episodes. All those memories just start pouring back in,” he continued. “I miss Wilmington. My entire career, I have tried to recreate that bubble, that camp, that Wilmington scenario, because on the weekends, we had so much fun.”
Kerr’s Book Includes Details About a ‘Very Risky’ Storyline
GettyWhile Kerr surely reminisces about various aspects of being part of “Dawson’s Creek,” he definitely touches on one “risky” storyline. That happens to be when his character, Jack, came out. When Jack kissed another man onscreen, it was the first time that had happened on a primetime series, according to Us Weekly.
“I had just landed the most incredible role in Hollywood — at least in my mind, for being that age and being so new,” he said. “Three months later, after integrating myself into the other four and just getting through that mess of making sure I feel at home and comfortable, now I’m being asked to play something that’s very different.”
“It was very risky at that time,” Smith added. “I’m glad I took the risk. We’re really proud.”
