Donald Glover, who goes by the stage name Childish Gambino, is a beloved actor/rapper. He’s known for shows like “Community” and “Atlanta,” as well as for songs such as “This Is America.” Recently, he opened up about his 2024 tour being canceled and revealed that a stroke was the reason for it.

Glover performed at Tyler, The Creator’s Camp Frog Gnaw on November 22. While at the event, he opened up about what led him to cancel the remaining dates of the Childish Gambino World Tour.
He began, “Okay, so I was doing this world tour. I was having lots of fun. Really loved seeing you guys out there. I had a really bad pain in my head in Louisiana, and I did the show anyway. I couldn’t really see well, so when we went to Houston, I went to the hospital, and the doctor was like, ‘You had a stroke.'”
Glover continued, “And the first thing I thought was like, ‘Oh, here I am still copying Jamie Foxx.’ That’s really like the second thing. The first thing was like, ‘I’m letting everybody down.'” He went on, “They found a hole in my heart. So I had this surgery, and then I had to have another surgery.”
Glover then advised the audience, saying, “You should be living your life how you want. If we have to do this again, it can only get better.”
Glover’s Tour Began and Ended in 2024
Glover began the world tour on August 11, 2024, in Oklahoma City, Ok. This marked his first time hitting the road on his own tour since 2019. Things went well in the beginning- tickets were selling well, his performances received high praise, and he was also set to release a new album, “Bando Stone and the New World,” in July of that year.
However, according to Variety, he postponed the tour in September due to physical issues. He said on social media, “Hey, everyone. Unfortunately, I have to postpone the rest of the North American tour to focus on my physical health for a few weeks. Hold onto your tickets.”
He added, “ALL tickets will be honored for the upcoming dates in North America when they are rescheduled. Thanks for the privacy. Thanks for the support and thanks for the love.”
From there, Glover canceled the rest of the tour in October. Per Variety, he said at the time, “After my show in New Orleans, I went to the hospital in Houston to make sure of an ailment that had become apparent.”
His statement continued, “After being assessed, it became clear I would not perform that night, and after more tests, I could not perform the rest of the U.S. tour in the time asked. As of now, I have surgery scheduled and need time out to heal.”
He Has Multiple Projects on the Horizon
As a rapper, Glover released what has been billed as his final album with “Bando Stone and the New World.” However, he has multiple acting projects in the pipeline. According to Deadline, Peacock ordered the “Community” movie in 2022. It’s still in preproduction with Glover set to return.
Per IMDb, he also has a Star Wars movie called “Lando” in development. Additionally, he’s working on a film version of his latest album.
