Tish Cyrus revealed her favorite rumor about the Cyrus family while appearing on Tay Lautner’s The Squeeze. The mother-of-five sat down with Lautner to discuss family, fame and mental health, covering topics ranging from her daughter Miley’s career to her divorce from Billy Ray Cyrus.
When asked about what she thinks people “get wrong” about her family, Cyrus responded with a reptilian rumor:
“I think my favorite thing is that we’re lizard people!” she chuckled.
‘We’re Lizard People’
Cyrus explained the context of the rumor, saying that she couldn’t announce on-air who conjured up the idea but promised to tell Lautner after the show’s taping.
“This is a real thing that happened,” Cyrus began, “this isn’t even a joke.”
She told Lautner that the girlfriend of “this [famous] guy in a band” was “being very strange” when meeting the Cyrus family.
“I was so scared, you know they’re lizard people right?” said the girlfriend. Her boyfriend was confused, responding that he didn’t know what lizard people were. She explained in a “dead serious” manner that the Cyruses were actually lizards wearing human skin suits that they can remove.
“She was dead serious–and this is a real thing, we looked lizard people up,” said Cyrus.
“[She thought] that we zip on our human skin. Like, this is not real. Underneath, I am a lizard,” she chuckled, “That’s my favorite.”
She was quick to clarify that she and the Cyrus family are not secretly lizards.
“You heard it here first,” said Lautner.
Shutting Down Rumors
During the interview, Cyrus discussed her family’s struggles with the paparazzi and press throughout their lives. While she was not used to the experience when she began dating Billy Ray Cyrus, her children grew up much closer to the spotlight and were “more prepared” for the business.
“For Miley, in the beginning when she was Hannah Montana, they would do horrible things,” she added.
She placed extra focus on major 2000s entertainment outlets like Perez Hilton and TMZ for violating her child’s boundaries.
“Why are these grown older men allowed to chase my 15-year-old daughter down the street with cameras? And then say really mean things about her…how is this even legal? They were kids,” Cyrus reflected.
She also gave a nod to Vanessa Hudgens, saying that the “High School Musical” alum was also unfairly targeted by the press.
“It’s just yuck,” she said.
Cyrus mentioned that just last week she heard rumors that her daughter was pregnant, leading her to remember another major untruth about Miley from the 2010s.
“That was my favorite one: Miley pregnant with Juicy J’s baby and in rehab! That was probably 10 years ago and that was on every cover of every magazine,” she said. She pondered how people can believe that ridiculous celebrity rumors are true.
Cyrus explained how her family shuts down all of the lies:
“What we’ve learned through the process is that it doesn’t matter what your comment is. If you’re even just saying anything, the story continues.”
