Fans of French cinema are in mourning as actress Nathalie Baye has sadly passed away. Notably, the actress appeared in over 100 roles throughout her career, including “Downton Abbey: A New Era,” “Catch Me if You Can,” and “Laurence Anyways.” She was 77, and now tributes are pouring in for her legacy.
According to Y Net News, Baye passed away on April 17 after a battle with Lewy body dementia, with the outlet reporting that her health had declined in the summer of 2025. Specifically, she died at her home in Paris.

Her Legacy Will Never Be Forgotten
Baye began her acting career in the 1970s and per IMDb, her debut was in an episode of the TV series “Au théâtre ce soir.” However, her big break in French cinema came three years later when she appeared in Francois Truffaut’s “Day for Night.”
Her over 100 credits also include “An Affair of Love,” “The Man Inside,” and “The Flower of Evil.” Throughout her career, Baye won several awards, including multiple César Awards and recognition from film festivals worldwide.
Baye remained busy in the later years of her illustrious career. Some of her roles from this time include 2023’s “Mother Valley,” “Alibi.com 2,” “Downton Abbey: A New Era,” and 2021’s “Lui.”
Regarding her family, she leaves behind a daughter, the famous French actress Laura Smet.
