Carrie Underwood Strikes Gold In Collab With Rocker

Carrie Underwood has struck gold in her duet with alt rock band Papa Roach.

The American Idol judge’s collab of “Leave a Light On (Talk Away the Dark)” with Papa Roach lead singer Jacoby Shaddix has hit gold record status, with more than 218 million streams.

“Leave a Light on (Talk Away the Dark)” was originally released by Papa Roach on their 2022 album “Ego Trip.” But Shaddix re-recorded the poignant song about suicide with Carrie in 2024.

Both artists pledged a perpetual royalty from the song’s use, in any manner, to support those affected by suicide.

Carrie Underwood & Jacoby Shaddix Put Their Hearts Into the Song

Carrie Underwood and Papa Roach first performed the song live April 5 at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, where the band was playing a tour stop.

Carrie was performing the final shows of her Las Vegas residency “Reflection.”

In a statement to PEOPLE at the time, Carrie said, “This collaboration has meant so much to me. Getting to perform ‘Leave a Light On’ live with Jacoby for the first time was incredibly special.”

Shaddix agreed, telling PEOPLE, “What a night it was in Vegas. To finally do ‘Leave a Light On’ live with Carrie Underwood was so rad, especially after all the work we both have been doing to raise money and awareness for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.”

Carrie Underwood Calls the Collab ‘an Honor’

When she was invited to record the song with Jacoby, Carrie said it wasn’t a hard decision.

Carrie told PEOPLE, “I’m such a huge fan of Jacoby and Papa Roach and was honored to be invited to record ‘Leave A Light On’ with them. It’s a beautiful song and the message behind it and the band’s mission to shine a light on suicide prevention and mental health awareness has never been more important.”

Jacoby Shaddix mirrored those feelings back at to the “Jesus Take the Wheel” singer. He says he and bandmates were “humbled that Carrie was open to our mission, and hearing the power of Carrie’s voice in that recording session we were blown away. Not only is her vocal ability unequaled, but the impact of her voice brings a new meaning to our cause and will help people all over the globe.”

Shaddix describes the track as “a symbol of hope and connection for those struggling in silence.”

And Carrie Underwood agreed, praising the song’s message of “compassion, connection, and reminding people they are not alone”.
