‘American Idol’ Winner Kris Allen Revives Holiday Song Nearly A Decade Later

Kris Allen won “American Idol” season 8 back in 2009, defeating runner-up Adam Lambert. Since then, Allen has maintained a steady career in music, most recently releasing his 2024 record, “Pole Vaulter.”

Before the holiday season came to a close, Allen delighted fans by revisiting one of his beloved holiday tunes from his 2016 album “Somethin’ About Christmas.” Nearly a decade later, fans were thrilled to hear him perform “Just Like Snow” once again.

Kris Allen Delights Fans by Singing 2016 Tune ‘Just Like Snow’

Ever since winning “American Idol” season 8, Kris Allen has continued to create music, even debuting a holiday record in 2016, titled “Somethin’ About Christmas.” The record included the song “Just Like Snow,” a warm and romantic tune that has been a fan favorite during the holiday season.

Recently, Allen surprised fans when he shared a video of himself singing the song on Instagram. Playing the piano, Allen sings the song a cappella, showing off his warm, soulful vocals as he reconnects with the beloved holiday tune.

He captioned his video, “chances of snow for Christmas this year….”

The comment section was overflowing with fans sharing just how much they loved hearing Allen sing one of his holiday classics, especially since it has been nearly a decade since he released his Christmas album.

In an interview with The Argonaut, Allen shared insight into his latest album, “Pole Vaulter,” which was released in August 2024. The Idol winner called the 14-track album his “best record,” adding that it was one of his most serious albums to date, focusing on topics such as parenthood, addiction, and getting older.

“I’m really excited for people to hear it. I feel like a lot of people say this, but this is my best record. I do feel like that. It doesn’t feel like a cop out,” he shared.

He continued, “Emotionally, it was hard to (sing about) parenthood. It’s heavy and huge, and it’s hard to go there. It’s good to go there, though. Politics, it’s hard to go there, too, but I have pretty strong feelings.”

“The addiction stuff is masked. Everybody goes through some things, and I wrote about it, but in a way that was kind of fun. Maybe someday I’ll tackle it specifically. It made it easier to write a song in a way that was lighthearted,” he said.
