‘American Idol’ Alum Gets Surprise Proposal During NBA Game

A former “American Idol” star experienced a moment she’ll never forget when her boyfriend surprised her with a sweet proposal.

The unexpected engagement occurred after Season 21 Idol star Paige Anne was invited to sing the National Anthem at the Utah Jazz game on December 20. A clip of the proposal was even shared with the NBA team, with Anne totally speechless at what was taking place.

Paige Anne Gets Surprise Proposal After Performing the National Anthem

“American Idol” season 21 alum Paige Anne recently performed “The Star-Spangled Banner” at a Dec. 20 Utah Jazz game and had no idea that a surprise was coming her way. A clip shared by the NBA team’s Instagram page showed Anne about to walk off the court after her performance when she notices her boyfriend, Bridger Gose, walking towards her.

In front of the entire stadium, Anne’s boyfriend dropped to one knee and held a ring box as he asked her to marry him. She said yes, prompting the crowd to erupt in applause as Anne leaped into his arms.

In an Instagram post, Anne shared more insight into her proposal, revealing that she had no idea she was getting engaged. In fact, she told her fans that she was supposed to be going ring shopping with her boyfriend two days after her performance, but instead, he decided to pick the perfect ring for her.

“I was shocked, it was insane. And it was so awesome that the entirety of the Utah Jazz staff was in on it,” she shared. “Everything just went blank; it was so surreal.” Answering other questions from her fans after getting engaged, she also joked that no, she wasn’t pregnant or quitting music.

How Anne’s Boyfriend Planned the Perfect Proposal

The newly engaged couple spoke with American Songwriter, where they shared how Gose was able to nail the perfect proposal. Proposing during an NBA game is no small feat, requiring extensive coordination, security approval, and precise timing during a live broadcast.

In fact, Anne was told that her performance of the national anthem could not exceed 90 seconds, but she had no idea that it was because they had to fit in an engagement.

“I had to get my national anthem down to 90 seconds, and I’ve never had to do that before. … That probably should’ve perked my ears. They were like ‘It’s for broadcasting and sponsors. ‘When in reality, it was so they could fit the proposal in,” she shared.

Anne then said that she was confused when her now-fiancé was walking up to her after her performance. “It was scary because I was like, wait, why are you walking on the stage?”

Despite everything that Gose has to go through to nail his proposal, he successfully surprised her in front of a packed arena.
