Thomas Rhett Reveals Big News About Fifth Baby’s Gender

Thomas Rhett and wife Lauren Akins have baby number five on the way, and they say this time around, they’re doing things a little differently.

Rhett told “Taste of Country Nights” host Evan Paul that unlike with their first four children, they’re going to let the baby’s gender be a surprise.

“Due date is in March and we are going to wait until the day of, man, to figure out what the gender is,” Rhett revealed.

The father of four daughters, ages nine and under, explained, “It’s terrifying for me, but there’s not many surprises left in this world, and I feel that’s one that you kinda get to be surprised with, if you choose to.”

Rhett is embracing the thrill and the mystery, saying, “We’re genuinely excited, bro.”

Thomas Rhett Says His Girls Are Excited About the Baby

In the Instagram post announcing Thomas Rhett and Lauren Akins happy news, the “Die a Happy Man” singer writes, “Here we go again! We’ve got some really excited big sisters in our house. God is so good.”

Thomas Rhett -or “TR” as his friends call him- and wife Lauren are open about the chaos of raising their children and navigating Rhett’s high profile music career.

The couple adopted their oldest daughter, Willa Gray, age 9, from Uganda in 2017. They brought Willa home at age 18-months after a year-long adoption process.

Two months after Willa finally came home, Lauren gave birth to 8-year-old Ada James.

Thomas and Lauren are also parents to 5-year-old Lennon Love and 3-year-old Lillie Carolina.

Thomas & Lauren Put Their Big News to Music

Thomas Rhett and Lauren Akins picked a creative way to announce a new addition to their ever-growing family.

The singer put up a fun post on Instagram putting the news to music.

In the video, Rhett modifies the lyrics to his 2018 hit “Life Changes.”

The original lyrics are:

I remember the day I told my daddy and mama
You’re gonna have a grandkid, yep
From Uganda, that’s right, we’re adoptin’
And she is the cutest little girl that you’ve ever seen

Well I was wrappin’ my head around bein’ a dad
A bigger wrench got thrown in the plans we thought we had
Now Lauren’s showin’ and got one on the way
Yeah that’s two into two, hey, what can I say?”

Fast forward to 2025, and Thomas leans against a fence, strums a guitar and sings to wife Lauren:

Well I was wrappin’ my head around bein’ a dad
A bigger wrench got thrown in the plans we thought we had
Now Lauren’s showin’ and got one on the way
Yeah that’s… [big pause] five under ten, hey, what can I say?”

Lauren laughs, rubs her pregnant tummy and holds up a photo strip from an ultrasound as Rhett sings, “Ain’t it funny how life changes
You wake up ain’t nothin’ the same and life changes”
