Derek Hough has a lot going on, with getting ready to judge Season 34 of “Dancing With the Stars” along with becoming the new host of “Extra.” Along with that, he’s also preparing to become a first-time dad with wife Hayley Erbert, and is anticipating the kickoff of his dance competition “Ovation” later this year.
Even so, it’s not every day you get the privilege of being a banana. Hough took on the role of a Savannah Banana with glee, dancing up a storm with Jenna Johnson’s niece, Hailey Bills. He even showed that, despite not hitting a ball since T-ball, he’s got a pretty good swing.
Hough and Bills Bring the Heat at Petco Park
On Saturday, August 6, Derek Hough walked out onto the field of San Diego’s Petco Park in the yellow pants and baseball shirt the team is known for. The number 25 was emblazoned on the jersey, along with “Hough.” He immediately began gyrating his hips to the song “Fireball,” by Pitbull.
He and Bills began dancing, with Savannah Bananas’ Zack Frong and Maceo Harrison dancing behind and alongside. There were also some pretty impressive synchronized moves the four had. The dance ended with Hough leaping over Bills before dramatically dipping her.
Viewers were quick to comment, with many expressing their awe at Bills’ dancing.
“Hayley is quickly becoming the IT girl!!!” wrote one fan.
Many others envisioned a member of the Savannah Bananas on DWTS in the future.
“Hailey is so fierce!” commented a fan. “Can’t wait to see more of her this season !!! Bananas on dwts when ??”
From T-Ball to Baby Jerseys: Derek Hough’s Epic Night Out
In a separate TikTok video, Hough documented the behind-the-scenes action that night, including his sweat-soaked shirt after rehearsing their dance moves and batting practice.
“I have not hit a ball since I was 13 years old, and that was playing T-ball,” he confessed to the camera. “So this is going to go about as good as you can imagine.”
It actually went much better than he probably imagined, with him consistently connecting his bat with the oncoming ball.
“He’s got a pretty good swing,” you hear someone say, along with a “Wow!” from Bills.
“Well, that just happened,” Hough said at the end. “Man, what an incredible night, can’t wait to do it again. But wait, one more little thing…”
Pe proceeded to unwrap two Savannah Banana jerseys. The first had his wife’s name, “Erbert,” on the back, while the second was a child-sized Banana’s jersey.
“That’s amazing!” He exclaimed upon seeing it. “Baby Hough, right here. That’s crazy. By the way, this could actually almost fit me.”
