Robert Irwin announced that he would be competing on season 34 of “Dancing with the Stars” in a TikTok video shared on April 23.
“This has been a dream of mine since I was a little kid watching my sister’s incredible journey on the show back in 2016. I cannot believe it is about to become a reality,” he wrote in the caption.
In a September 10 interview with People, Robert revealed what drove him to compete for the Mirrorball Trophy.
“I wanted to do this because I was inspired by my sister Bindi, who won ‘Dancing with the Stars’ 10 years ago. I remember coming to every live taping to watch her and thinking, ‘One day I have to do this,'” he said.
The nature conservationist added, “I may not have the skills, but I’ve got the passion!”
Robert Revealed His DWTS Partner
Robert is officially paired up with Witney Carson for his “DWTS” debut. In an Instagram post shared on September 6, he showed a clip of himself dancing, with Carson revealing herself as his partner.
“I am so lucky to have the best dance partner for this amazing Dancing With The Stars adventure! I can’t believe it’s finally happening, here we go!!” he wrote.
A fan replied “I love this pairing I can’t wait to see what you bring to the dance floor.”
When asked by ET on September 4 if he was prepared for cutting up the ballroom floor, Robert said, “We were born ready!”
“I’ve been prepping, I’ve been stretching for three months straight … but there’s no way to prepare for this,” he added.
Robert continued, “You’ve just got to jump in and give it your everything.”
Bindi Gave Robert Invaluable Advice for ‘DWTS’
Bindi Irwin competed on season 21 of “Dancing with the Stars” with Derek Hough — and won the prized Mirrorball Trophy.
Robert shared with “Good Morning America” of having a vet in his corner, “Bindi has already been such a treasure trove of information.”
He added, “She said something which I’ve really taken on board. It’s all about: listen to the music, but listen for that timing. Listen for that beat, and start kind of just grooving.”
“If you’re in the car, if you’re in your house, wherever you are, just start kind of grooving to the music. She described it as the closest thing you can get to flying. So I want to feel that experience, but in my own way,” Robert said.
