Val Chmerkovskiy is joining in on the viral “What Were You Like in the ’90s?” social media trend, and the 40-year-old “DWTS” fan-favorite looks nothing like his current self in his old pics.
“Been that guy since the iron curtain fell,” Val captioned his post, referencing his Ukrainian roots. “Dad what were you like in the ’90s?” the dancer wrote over a snap of his current-day self leaning against a wall in a black mirror ball sweatshirt and shades.
The clip then cut to some photos of Val’s much younger self. The first showed him as a little boy dressed in an elegant white blouse and bowtie. In the next photos, a black and white shot, little Val stares into the camera very seriously while sporting a short, spiky haircut.
In another snap that appears to be a school graduation, he holds a cap with a tassel and smiles while rocking a fluffy haircut.
Next, Val poses in a funny slogan tank top that bears the word, “PIMP.”
Val Chmerkovskiy’s Fans React to His Funny Throwback Photos & Think He Looks Like His Son
Val’s fans were delighted with his cute and funny ’90s snaps. One wrote, “Val knew he was from a very early age,” quoting an iconic line said by Val’s season 16 “DWTS” partner Zendaya in her hit HBO drama “Euphoria.”
Another person chimed in to call Val “sooooo cute,” while others pointed out how much young Val resembled his 3-year-old son Rome, whom he shares with his wife and fellow “DWTS” pro Jenna Johnson.
The “PIMP” shirt in the last picture elicited a lot of reactions. One fan wrote that the cheeky design “knocked me out.” Another wrote, “The last picture with the tank that reads pimp,” adding a laughing emoji to show their reaction.
Val’s Wife Jenna Recently Used Another Throwback for His Milestone 40th Birthday Post
Jenna shared a snap of Val that appeared to be from the early days of their history together to wish him a happy birthday on Tuesday, March 24. She wrote, “Happy 40th Birthday to the one and only; to be loved by him is to feel as though you’re standing on top of the world.”
Jenna then called her husband “my love” before writing him a sweet haiku per Johnson family tradition that reads:
Forty candles glow,
Still the man who stole my heart-
My always, my home.
Jenna included several more photos in the post showing some of her most touching moments with Val and Rome. Their “DWTS” colleague Emma Slater reacted, “Yooooo!! These pics are great! HBD.”
“The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives” star Whitney Leavitt, who competed on the most recent “Dancing With the Stars” season, also sent Val a wish, saying, “Hbd VALLLLL” and adding party emojis.
