“Desperate Housewives” star Teri Hatcher is mourning a heartbreaking loss in the family.
The 61-year-old actress shared that her beloved rescue dog, Pumpkin, has crossed the rainbow bridge.
In an Instagram post, Hatcher shared a heartfelt tribute to Pumpkin, whom she welcomed into their home six years ago.
“It is with deep sadness that I said goodbye to Pumpkin yesterday,” Hatcher wrote. “Six years ago when I went looking to adopt a dog, I wanted a senior (because I knew most people would be looking for puppies).”
She continued, “So I knew this day would eventually come faster than I’d want it to— but in Pumpkin’s case, it was not before he had the chance to touch so many hearts and comfort so many souls, in ways I could never have anticipated.”
Teri Hatcher Calls Her Dog a ‘True Blessing’
Hatcher went on to praise Pumpkin’s work as a therapy dog, calling him a “true blessing” to both patients and staff.
“His rock star looks with his cuddly soft fur and loving demeanor were an endless comfort and a true blessing,” she added.
The Hallmark Channel alum, who reunited with her “Desperate Housewives” co-star James Denton for 2021’s “A Kiss Before Christmas,” ended her post with a touching message for Pumpkin, thanking him for being the “best dog.”
“Thank you, Pumpkin, for coming into my life and for all you gave to so many. I knew you always tried to be the best dog, even when it was hard for your body,” Hatcher continued. “And Pumpkin, you were the best dog. I’m gutted. I did, and would have done, anything and everything to make you well. I’m so sorry there weren’t answers. Sometimes it’s just like that.”
Fans Show Her Love
Fans and friends took to the comment section to show their love and support for the “Desperate Housewives” star and her dog.
Someone wrote, “Adopting an older dog is one of the kindest and sweetest things anyone could ever do! You gave him the gift of his last years on this planet being joyous and beautiful, and you are an angel for having done that!”
Another commented, “Sending you giant hugs. You gave him a truly wonderful life, and you were lucky to find each other. I’m so sorry.”
A fan added, “Thank you for giving him a wonderful life. Yes …too many older dogs/cats are ignored.”
Meanwhile, “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” star Lisa Rinna wrote, “I’m so sorry for your loss it’s just the hardest when we lose our fur babies, sending you so much love.”

Really? We’re spending serious reporting on a dog dying.
Because that never happens!
Must be a Chihuahua now that she lives in Mexico, little Democrat turncoat.
The reporter left out the part about how Ms. money snatcher Hatcher hate America, unless it involves a paycheck and royalties.. Hollywood is as fake as the face blurting out the work and artistry of others.
It takes someone special to adopt an older dog because just as she said “she knew her time with Pumpkin
would be shorter. And then to have the dog as a therapy dog at the Children’s Hospital is really sweet and so important to the little ones.
So sorry about your loss of Pumpkin but you gave Pumpkin a wonderful life.
