Sarah Drew Reveals Why ‘Mistletoe Murders’ Has Her Heart Ahead of Season 2 Finale

Hallmark’s Sarah Drew is gushing about “Mistletoe Murders,” which airs the final two episodes of season 2 on November 21. She teased a few tidbits about these final two episodes and admitted that this is “My favorite job I’ve ever had.”

Sarah Drew Found ‘the Trifecta’ in ‘Mistletoe Murders’

During an appearance on the “Pop Culture Unplugged” podcast on November 19, Drew noted that the cast and crew have a lot of fun making the show. She added that she has been excited for the viewers to see it.

“It’s my favorite job. I’ve been saying this in every interview. It’s my favorite job I’ve ever had for so many reasons,” Drew exclaimed.

She suggested that it’s “like the trifecta.” First, the set is “so joyful,” Drew shared. In addition, she explained, she laughs throughout the 10 weeks of filming each season.

Third, Drew shared, “I have such deep, tender friendships with everybody on that crew and cast.”

After all the work is done, and they watch it later, Drew said she’s “so proud of it” and thinks it’s truly a good show.

“It’s a show I would want to watch,” she added. Drew raved, “I think there’s a heightened, elevated, beautiful, complex piece to all of it…I’m so proud of it.”

She added that it’s “very rare that all three of those things pop at the same time.” As a result of how wonderful the experience has been and how much the viewers love the series, it’s become Drew’s favorite job.

The Hallmark Star Describes the Season As ‘Tenderhearted’

Regarding the episodes airing on November 21, Drew teased that her favorite Emily flashbacks come up in these specific shows. “You see a very, very different side of Emily that is extremely informative,” she hinted.

Drew loves playing Emily, going so far as to say, “It’s just an actor’s dream to get to play someone that has so many different layers.” She loves that her character is “so multi-faceted” and someone who “shifts gears with absolute ease.”

She gives a lot of credit to Ken Cuperus, the writer of the book series by the same name. Cuperus is “brilliant at melding these two worlds” of holiday and mystery, Drew shared.

The Hallmark star continued, “Both of these worlds are really beloved. Both the mystery genre and the Christmas genre are absolutely beloved.”

Drew thinks that “Mistletoe Murders” works so well because the series follows a path that works similarly in both Hallmark Christmas movies and mystery movies. “Something’s broken, something’s messy, you take a whole journey and at the end you know it’s all going to be okay.”

“You know the guy’s going to get the girl, you know that bad guys are going to go down and good guys are going to win. And that’s why people tune in to Hallmark,” she added.

She continued, “There’s, like, an exhale and, like, a salve for the soul that comes from both of these genres. And then [Cuperus] just has done an incredible job of intertwining them.”

When asked to describe season 2 of “Mistletoe Murders” in one word, Drew chose “tenderhearted.” She loves the strength in vulnerability that plays out. She admitted that tenderhearted isn’t “a sexy idea,” but she felt it would make sense after viewers watched the full season.

  5. What everyone’s been saying is absolutely true. Mistletoe Murders is a GREAT series! One of the best. I love how the actors can really pull you in to their feelings. When they’re sad, lonely or hurt…you feel the same and when they’re happy, proud or full of hope, so are you. So often, actors play their part very well and say the words that are written but you’re just watching a movie. This cast must really enjoy working together on this set because it shows how good everyone really is.
