Two years after retiring from HGTV, longtime “Love It Or Leave It” star Hilary Farr wants fans to know she’s “alive and well” amid online reports she’s gravely ill. The expert designer posted an Instagram video on November 26, 2025, to clarify that she is okay.
Farr, 74, shared a video of herself standing in front of a screenshot of a social media post that’s been making the rounds, with AI-generated photos created to resemble her. The photos, including one of her supposedly wearing an oxygen mask in a hospital bed, appeared with the words “SHE MIGHT NOT MAKE IT.” But Farr says nothing could be further from the truth, much to her fans’ relief.
Hilary Farr Says Reports She’s Seriously Ill Are Fake
In Farr’s social media video, she showcased a fake news report that said in its caption, “The physician caring for Hilary Farr’s cancer has provided a devastating update on her health: ‘She might never be seen on TV in the future.'”
Farr refuted the report by popping in front of it and saying, “Tah-dah! I’m alive! Very, very, very much so — alive and well, I’m happy to say.”
She then continued, “So, look at this thing. Really. It’s so badly done. It’s crazy, AI stuff. I hope none of you would really take any of this seriously and realize it is just fake beyond words. Well, I’m here to prove that. So, just checking in. All’s good with me, hope all’s good with you.”
Fans Relieved to See Hilary Farr is Doing Well
GettyMany fans responded to Farr’s post, expressing relief that she is doing well and that she had cleared things up.
“I’m so relieved and grateful that you’ve set the record straight,” one wrote, and hundreds of people liked the comment. “It’s awful what some people have chosen to do with AI. Happy Thanksgiving, Hilary!”
Someone else commented, “Praise God! We are not ready yet!” and Farr cutely responded, “ya me either!”
Hilary Farr Has Been Open About Her Previous Battles With Breast Cancer
Farr announced her departure from “Love It or List It” in December 2023 after starring in 258 episodes of the show. Two years prior, in 2021, she opened up to People about her prior breast cancer battles.
She told the outlet that in 2012, doctors found a suspicious lump in one of her breasts during a routine mammogram. Farr immediately had surgery to remove the lump, called a lumpectomy, and tests showed the tumor was precancerous, not malignant.
But in late 2014, while filming “Love It or List It” in Raleigh, North Carolina, another mammogram revealed a new tumor that had spread into surrounding breast tissue, Farr told People. She was diagnosed with invasive breast cancer and underwent a second lumpectomy surgery.
Farr told the outlet that her medical oncologist said they got all of the cancer, but erroneously said she didn’t need any further treatment. However, two months later, Farr learned she needed radiation to destroy any remaining cancer cells and reduce the risk of recurrence. She told People she was “terrified” they did not catch it all in time.
In late September 2025, Farr posted a video ahead of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, urging her fans to get their mammograms and stay on top of their health.
“Love It or List It” has been rebooted since Farr’s departure. HGTV has paired her old onscreen partner, realtor David Visentin, with longtime HGTV personality Paige Turner.

I miss her with David, they were so good together
