“Rehab Addict” star Nicole Curtis explains herself after a racial slur caught on camera ended in her show’s cancellation by HGTV.
“I don’t have, I don’t have a rhyme or reason of the words that I make up. Like I say I say nonsense stuff all the time,” Curtis said during a Tuesday, March 10, appearance on “The Breakfast Club.”
“I’m off the cuff. I’m not scripted,” she added.
Nicole Curtis Apologizes For Racial Slur
During her appearance on the popular podcast, Curtis made it clear, “I didn’t come on here to prove myself.”
However, she did take the opportunity to apologize for her actions.
“I’ve come out, and I’ve said, I don’t condone the use of that word,” Curtis told the hosts. “First of all, I apologized to my children first. That was most important.”
She continued, “I apologize. To everyone out there, Charlamagne, so you are away, that is a word that I do not condone. So the people out there, do not use me as an example. I made a mistake. I know I made a mistake. You watch that footage…You know that I [am sorry].”
Curtis’ appearance comes nearly one month after HGTV pulled the plug on her hit renovation series after Radar Online published a video showing Curtis using a racial slur on camera.
“HGTV was recently made aware of an offensive racial comment made during the filming of ‘Rehab Addict.’ Not only is language like this hurtful and disappointing to our viewers, partners, and employees — it does not align with the values of HGTV,” the network explained in a statement on February 11.
Nicole Curtis Was Advised Not to Go on ‘Breakfast Club’
The former HGTV star took to social media following her appearance on the “Breakfast Club” podcast, explaining that joining the hosts for a chat was her idea.
“Everyone advised against this, to be honest,” Curtis captioned a photo shared via Instagram on Tuesday. “No one thought this was a good idea for me and I reached out and asked if they would have the conversation.”
She added, “Here’s what happens in life when we stay in our own echo chambers -we stay stuck. Thank you to Loren for answering my call. I realize they are getting heat for giving me time from their followers, I think it’s time we all got out of our comfort zones and have these conversations.”
