In 2004, MTV premiered “Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County,” giving fans a deeper look into the lives of high schoolers Lauren Conrad, Kristin Cavallari, Stephen Colletti, and others as they navigated young love, friendships, and coming into adulthood. It also gave fans an epic love triangle that divided viewers into Team Kristin or Team Lauren.
Celebrating 20 years since the series wrapped, the entire cast is reuniting for the special “The Reunion: Laguna Beach,” scheduled to premiere on April 10 on the Roku Channel. Fans can expect never-before-heard stories as the group reflects on their high school drama, along with the highly anticipated one-on-one between Cavallari and Conrad.
However, one notable cast member, who famously stirred up drama and dated multiple co-stars, including Conrad, is absent from the reunion.
Jason Wahler Is Not a Part of the ‘Laguna Beach’ Reunion
Back in September 2025, Roku announced that the cast of MTV’s “Laguna Beach” was heading back to the beach for a 20-year reunion special. The confirmed cast included Stephen Colletti, Lauren Conrad, Kristin Cavallari, Talan Torriero, Trey Phillips, Christina Shuller, Dieter Schmitz, Jessica Smith, and Alex Hooser.
However, what some fans are wondering is why Jason Wahler, Conrad and Smith’s ex-boyfriend, was not part of the reunion special.
While attending “The Reunion: Laguna Beach” premiere, Smith offered some much-needed insight for fans during an interview with Entertainment Tonight on why Wahler was not present. She explained that the reunion primarily focused on the events that occurred in the first season, and Wahler did not become a cast member until season 2, despite his memorable relationships with her and Conrad.
“Well, since it was all season one, we didn’t even dabble into season 2,” she began. “I had a couple of people that were like, ‘You were a mess.’ And, I’m like, ‘Yes, I was,” she then joked.
What Is Wahler Doing Today?
Despite Wahler not being part of the “Laguna Beach” 20th anniversary special, fans can still follow him on social media. The former reality TV star now works as an addiction and mental health advocate and is the director of the Change Your Brain Foundation. Wahler also works with his wife, Ashley Wahler, on their JAWS YouTube series, where the couple “share the real, raw side of life—recovery, marriage, family, and faith,” according to his website.
Wahler also appears to still keep in touch with his “Laguna Beach” co-stars. In September 2025, he took part in a fun TikTok with Torriero, Smith, Hooser, and Alex Murrel. The caption for the video read, “We’re back!” Sending fans into a frenzy over their reunion.
Wahler and his wife wed in 2013 and have since welcomed three children. The former MTV star proudly shares photos of his loving family on Instagram, more recently sharing a snapshot of the family of five posing together as they celebrated Easter.
“The Reunion: Laguna Beach” premieres on Friday, April 10, and will stream exclusively on The Roku Channel.
