Moviegoers across the country can now catch two of Dolly Parton’s most beloved 1980s classics back on the big screen where they belong.
In a tribute to the entertainment icon’s enduring film legacy, major theater chains including AMC and Regal are launching limited-time re-releases of some of her most unforgettable roles. These special daily matinee screenings offer fans a rare chance to revisit the entertainer’s trademark warmth, razor-sharp humor, and unforgettable screen presence on the giant screen once again.
Fans React to the Tribute to Dolly Parton’s Film Career
According to a statement from AMC Theaters CEO Adam Aron, theaters will pay tribute to Dolly Parton’s film career with special screenings of two of her most beloved films from the 1980s.
He said in a statement on X, “To honor the one and only Dolly Parton. AMC will bring back two of her movies to about 200 of our theatres. Tomorrow through Wednesday.” Aron then shared information about which of Parton’s films were chosen for the honor.
He continued, “‘Steel Magnolias’ (1989): the acclaimed comedy-drama starring Dolly Parton, Sally Field, Julia Roberts, Shirley MacLaine, Olympia Dukakis and Daryl Hannah. ‘The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas’ (1982): the hit musical comedy starring Dolly Parton and Burt Reynolds.”
Fans reacted to the film tribute to two of Parton’s most iconic ’80s film roles.

Dolly Parton Appeared in a Dozen Films Throughout Her Career

Parton made her triumphant acting debut in the 1980 comedy hit “9 to 5” alongside Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin, earning a Golden Globe nomination and providing the film’s chart-topping anthem. She proved her debut was no fluke with 1982’s “The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas,” starring opposite Burt Reynolds as the spirited Mona Stangley, followed by the 1984 musical comedy “Rhinestone” alongside Sylvester Stallone.
In 1989, Parton joined an elite ensemble cast in “Steel Magnolias,” delivering an enduring performance as beloved Louisiana salon owner Truvy Jones. She starred opposite James Woods in the 1992 romantic comedy “Straight Talk.” Additionally, she shared the screen with Queen Latifah in 2012’s “Joyful Noise.”
Dolly Parton passed on August 25 in Nashville, Tennessee, according to People Magazine. She was 80.
