Over the years, Miley Cyrus has been known as an actress, a singer, Billy Ray Cyrus’ daughter, Dolly Parton’s goddaughter and even Disney’s Hannah Montana. However, the star has now made it clear that she wants to be known be one simple name that isn’t exactly the one she’s made famous during the course of her career.
Although this might surprise her fans, it turns out that the change could have been prompted by a very exciting development that we may soon get to enjoy.
Introducing… Miley, Just Miley
When this particular star was born, she was actually named Destiny Hope Cyrus. However, thanks to the fact that she was a rather happy baby, her parents nicknamed her “Smiley,” which eventually became “Miley.” Of course, she later became famous as Miley Cyrus.
But here’s something interesting: If you search Miley Cyrus on Google, you may notice a little message that’s been added near the top of the results page that says, “Did you mean… just: miley”
This now happens because the star took to Instagram on Monday, August 31, to make a major announcement in a simple yet striking way. First of all, fans who follow her on social media will notice that she’s changed her handle to @miley. That’s not to mention the fact that in the caption of her post, she revealed that she’s dropped her last name by writing, “MILEY.”
Beyond that, you definitely can’t overlook the fact that the jaw-droppingly gorgeous photo that she included with the post is absolutely stunning. A mostly red image that is a close-up of her face, her hair is wonderfully wispy, her lips are perfectly parted and the intense stare she’s showing off is captivating. Beyond that, she’s wrapped in a fashionable (faux?) fur piece that takes the entire look to the next level. Frankly, the image is worthy of an album cover (hint, hint).
With that in mind, even though Miley has talked about her music career coming to an end, it doesn’t seem like that is happening quite yet. In fact, when she revealed that she wanted to be known by just her first name, it sparked quite a bit of buzz that the change was related to a new era for the star, which may have to do with new music.
Miley’s Music Campaign Began Just Before Dolly Parton Passed
When Miley shared her latest Instagram post and announced her name change, Billboard pointed out that she is “seemingly teasing new music.” In fact, she may have started “to tease her next era earlier last week as cryptic red-and-black billboards popped up with the promise, ‘coming soon.'”
However, Miley’s plans may have been temporarily interrupted or partially adjusted due to the fact that just after the campaign seemingly began, Miley’s beloved godmother, Dolly Parton, passed away on August 25, at the age of 80.
Following Parton’s death, Miley shared a touching post on Instagram, telling her fans and followers, “The feeling of losing my Aunt Dolly is beyond what feels right to share. Our most sacred moments were private and they’ll stay there behind the stage, beneath the glamour & between our hearts.”
“What I KNOW is Dolly would want me to feel it, write a song about it, and then continue on and be strong,” Miley continued, and it seems like by releasing new music, she might very well be honoring what she believes Parton would have wanted.
