Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi are celebrating 18 years of marriage and more than two decades together.
“Happy anniversary to my favorite person in the entire world,” DeGeneres wrote. “I can’t believe how lucky I am that I get to spend the rest of my life with you. What an adventure we are having!!”
Friends also joined in on the celebration in the comments, including Kris Jenner, who wished the couple a happy anniversary and wrote, “Happy Anniversary beautiful friends we love you!!!!”
Ellen DeGeneres Previously Called Marriage Her ‘Greatest Joy’
The anniversary was not the first time DeGeneres celebrated the couple’s 18-year milestone this year.
During Pride Month in June, she shared a throwback to People’s Sept. 1, 2008, cover featuring her and de Rossi on their wedding day.
“Being married is the greatest joy of my life. It has been for 18 years,” DeGeneres wrote at the time. “Happy Pride.”
DeGeneres and de Rossi began dating in late 2004, four years after initially meeting at a party. They married on Aug. 16, 2008, shortly after same-sex marriage became legal in California.
The pair kept their wedding intimate, exchanging vows at their California home in front of just 19 guests, according to People. They both wore custom Zac Posen designs, while the celebration included an acoustic performance by Joshua Radin, a vegan dinner and vegan red velvet wedding cake.
Their relationship has continued to evolve through major changes in both of their lives. De Rossi publicly supported her wife when DeGeneres faced controversy surrounding “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” in 2020. Two years later, when the daytime series ended its 19-season run, de Rossi praised DeGeneres and said she was proud of what her wife had accomplished.

Over the years, both have spoken about the friendship behind their relationship.
De Rossi previously described DeGeneres as her best friend, while DeGeneres told People in 2016 that she and her wife regularly reminded each other how fortunate they felt to have found one another.
“Portia and I constantly say to each other, ‘We are so lucky,’” she said.
The couple later made another major life change together when they relocated to the Cotswolds in the U.K. By December 2024, they were celebrating 20 years as a couple, with DeGeneres thanking her wife for supporting her through the highs and lows.
At the time, DeGeneres wrote that de Rossi helped take care of her, guided her and picked her up whenever she felt down. She also looked ahead to spending the next chapter of their lives traveling and exploring together.
Now, nearly 22 years after their romance began, DeGeneres is still expressing the same sentiment as the couple celebrates 18 years of marriage.
“I can’t believe how lucky I am that I get to spend the rest of my life with you,” she wrote.
