RAYE Stops Jazz Fest Set to Help Fan Before Bringing Engaged Couple Onstage [VIDEO]

RAYE gave fans much more than a concert at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival on April 23, turning her set into a moment of both compassion and celebration after helping one fan in need and later bringing a newly engaged couple onstage during one of her biggest hits.

The 28-year-old singer-songwriter, born Rachel Keen, was performing on the Shell Gentilly Stage at the Fair Grounds Race Course when she paused her set during “Skin & Bones” after noticing someone in the crowd needed medical attention.

According to People, RAYE immediately stopped singing and asked the audience to help clear a path for medical and security staff to reach the fan.

“Could you just clear a path so this lovely gentleman can get through and provide help?” she told the crowd.

Fans responded with applause as staff moved in, while RAYE stayed focused on making sure the situation was handled safely. She even asked nearby audience members to give her a thumbs up once everything was okay.

About a minute later, she reassured the crowd and smoothly returned to the show.

“Alright, we’re going to learn some lyrics now, and I hope this lovely person’s okay,” she said before continuing.

The calm moment quickly turned into something much sweeter later in the set when another fan handed RAYE a poster from the audience. While reacting to the sign, she learned the woman holding it had just gotten engaged after her boyfriend proposed during the performance.

Clearly caught off guard, RAYE turned back and asked, “What’s your name? … He just, he just proposed?”

RAYE Turned a Proposal Into an Onstage Celebration

Instead of just congratulating them from afar, RAYE decided to make the moment even bigger.

She promised the newly engaged couple they could come onstage during her performance of “Where Is My Husband?,” her 2025 breakout hit that became one of the biggest songs of her career.

When the time came, she followed through, inviting them up and introducing them to the crowd as they sat onstage during the song. Videos shared online showed the couple smiling while RAYE shouted them out and turned the performance into their own mini engagement party.

The moment quickly became one of the standout clips from the festival’s opening day.

The first day of Jazz Fest also included performances from artists like Kings of Leon and Stephen Marley, but RAYE’s mix of kindness and spontaneity gave her set a special spotlight.

The festival also took place as authorities addressed a separate safety concern. According to CNN and the Associated Press, police said they had stopped an alleged mass shooting attempt involving a former North Carolina police officer who reportedly threatened violence at a New Orleans festival.

Following the arrest, the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival said in a statement to Fox affiliate WVUE, “As always, we coordinate closely with the FBI, Louisiana State Police, NOPD, NOCEM and other agencies. We look forward to another safe and joyful Jazz Fest.”

‘Where Is My Husband!’ Became a Career Milestone

The song at the center of the engagement moment has already been a major turning point for RAYE.

Earlier this year, “Where Is My Husband!” became her highest-charting song ever on the Billboard Hot 100. Per Billboard, the track jumped from No. 56 to No. 13 on the Jan. 10 chart, giving her a new personal best.

Before that, her highest Hot 100 peak was “Escape” featuring 070 Shake, which reached No. 22 in January 2023.

Billboard reported that the song’s rise was driven by 18.2 million U.S. streams, 16.1 million in radio airplay audience and 2,000 sales during the tracking week.

The publication called it the standout among songs entering the top 40 for the first time that week, officially making “Where Is My Husband!” a career breakthrough.

Now, the same song is creating viral real-life moments too.

From stopping a show to help a fan to celebrating a surprise proposal live onstage, RAYE’s Jazz Fest set proved exactly why the song continues to connect with people. As she told the crowd after helping the first fan, “I hope this lovely person’s okay.”
