Former “The Real Housewives of New York” star Alex McCord has shared some news online about a major life event that she has experienced in recent days. Having left behind the world of reality television to concentrate on her studies, McCord has now revealed that she has now completed her PhD in clinical psychology.
Alex McCord Completes PhD
McCord, who left Bravo’s “The Real Housewives” franchise in season 4 of “The Real Housewives of New York,” has been working on her postgraduate education for several years now and has officially reached a major milestone that is incredibly impressive.
Accompanying the Instagram post where she announced the news, McCord wrote, “Degree of Doctor of Philosophy, Clinical Psychology= conferred!! Of course there will be an in-person ceremony with a big hat and much celebration next May, but for now…IT’S DONE!”
The reveal comes around a year after McCord first spoke about the fact that she was working towards her PhD and had completed a successful defense of her research proposal, a key step to attaining a doctorate.
Writing on Instagram, she said, “I’m gonna be a PhD!! Just successfully defended my research proposal and my doctoral candidature is confirmed!!”
According to Bravo, McCord had previously achieved her Master of Professional Psychology from the University of New England in Armidale, Australia in May of 2024. She also revealed in 2020 that her first peer-reviewed journal had won a national award after being published, demonstrating her skill and talent for her chosen field.
Alex McCord Left New York Behind For Australia
McCord and her husband Simon van Kempen departed New York in 2014 and moved to van Kempen’s home country of Australia. At the time of the move, the pair revealed that they had done so to be closer to van Kempen’s family. However, the family has frequently returned to New York for trips and McCord regularly posts images of her enjoying time with her family in her former home.
The group saw the new year’s celebrations in the state and took in a night at the opera to celebrate their time back in Brooklyn. “Happy New Year from Lincoln Center!! #metopera @simonvankempen @johanvankempen @francoisvkempen – PS the new Carmen is amazing…go see it!” McCord wrote.
In the same year, McCord unveiled that her son Johan had recently achieved a major life achievement having graduated high school and turned 18. The last time fans had seen him on television, Johan was in pre-school.
