In the soap world, characters returning from the dead is no strange concept, and that’s especially true for General Hospital. Longtime fans of the show have seen a number of characters “die” and then be “resurrected” for the sake of a good storyline. Heck, Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) may in fact hold the record across daytime TV for the character to make the most returns from the dead.
That being said, with Jason and Sonny (Maurice Benard) retiring, now would be a great time for General Hospital writers to go into their bag of revival tricks to really stir up some fireworks on the soap. If this one character returns, he could send absolute shockwaves through Port Charles, and he could really “save” the underworld of Port Charles.
General Hospital’s Morgan Corinthos Should Finally Make a Comeback
ABCIt may be hard to believe, but Carly (Laura Wright) and Sonny’s son Morgan (last played by Bryan Craig) was allegedly killed nearly 10 years ago. Back in October 2016, after spiraling out of control for months thanks to Ava Jerome (Maura West) tampering with his bipolar medication, Morgan stole Julian Jerome’s (William deVry) car. When the young Corinthos finally got out of the vehicle, it exploded, and Morgan was presumed dead. However, a body was never officially recovered.
Many General Hospital viewers, myself included, always believed that because Morgan’s remains were never found, he would one day make his big return to the series. While Sonny has hallucinated Morgan in the past, Morgan hasn’t actually returned. Well, now would be the perfect time. And while it would be fantastic if this came in the form of Craig resuming the role, a suitable recast may do.
General Hospital’s Morgan Corinthos Should Become the New Kingpin of Port Charles

During Craig’s run as Morgan, he was moody, explosive at times, impulsive, and attracted to danger. If this sounds familiar, it’s because in many ways he was a replica of Sonny. He was even drawn to be in the mob life, way more than any of Sonny’s other children.
So let’s say Morgan is alive and has remarkably built his own criminal enterprise away from Port Charles. However, he’s been keeping tabs on his hometown, specifically his family, from a distance. Then, once hearing that Jason and Sonny are retiring, Morgan heads home to take their place through a secretly elaborate plan.
If you follow this hypothetical, then you’re probably saying to yourself, “There’s no way Sonny and Jason would give Morgan the business if he shows up.” Well, that’s where things could get interesting.
From a soap perspective, it’s in the realm of possibility that Morgan stayed away to build his own criminal empire because, leading to his demise in Port Charles, he largely felt himself to be a disappointment to his parents. His staying away to build something to prove to himself he’s not a “screw-up” makes sense. Additionally, his wanting to return to take over Port Charles could happen if he finally believes he’s “accomplished something” and wants to prove himself to those who knew him.
Morgan may have to use a middleman to acquire his dad’s criminal territories, as well as Sidwell’s (Carlo Rota), to become a Port Charles Kingpin, but should that happen and Morgan make the big reveal later, the Spencer/Corinthos clan would be shocked and left reeling.
Taking things further, it would be entertaining to see if Morgan had an axe to grind against Ava and Michael (Rory Gibson). With Ava, Morgan may just want payback for her messing with his medication. As far as Michael, Morgan loves his brother. But let’s not pretend that Morgan hasn’t always been jealous of Michael. It would be quite ironic if the adult versions of Michael and Morgan become what Jason and AJ used to be.
Oh, and last but not least, with Josslyn (Eden McCoy) in the WSB and Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) an officer with the Port Charles Police Department, Morgan would also seemingly be battling at least two other siblings already.
But this all lands in the realm of hypotheticals. We’ll have to just wait and see what General Hospital writers have in store.
