Kelly Clarkson Wants ‘Lightness’ Back in Her Life After Talk Show Exit: Report

Kelly Clarkson is looking to shift her focus and priorities after wrapping up her daytime television show. The season 29 coach for “The Voice,” and former “American Idol” winner recently explained that she was leaving daytime primarily to focus on her children.

Now, insiders have provided some additional context into Clarkson’s decision.

Kelly Clarkson Found her Daytime Talk Show to Be All-Consuming

On February 11, Us Weekly shared scoop from a Clarkson insider regarding her decision to leave her show.

As Clarkson explained via an Instagram post on February 2, she wants to prioritize her kids “which feels necessary and right for this next chapter of our lives.”

Clarkson has two children with her ex-husband, the late Brandon Blackstock. Her daughter River is 11, and her son Remington is 9.

“Kelly’s been through so much in her life, and she just pushes on. A lot of that comes from her selfless nature. She has people who depend on her, and she puts them first.”

In addition to appearing as a coach on season 29 of “The Voice,” Clarkson hopes to pursue more music and perhaps dip her toes into dating again.

The decision to end her daytime show wasn’t made lightly. However, an Us Weekly insider explained, “Kelly didn’t realize how all-consuming the show would be. It’s her entire life.”

Clarkson seemingly also didn’t anticipate how popular the show would become, or how long it would last. “She was surprised. The talk show became more than she initially bargained for, and left her with little time to pursue anything else,” a source shared.

“Kelly asked herself, ‘Do I want to spend the rest of my life doing this?’ She wants to focus on things that she really loves,” an insider explained.

The plan in the foreseeable future, one source told Us Weekly, is to “split her time between live performances and her merchandising deals and take a step back.”

‘The Voice’ Coach May Open up to Love Again Soon, Too

Part of stepping back after her television show ends may include looking for a fresh romance. “Kelly would love to have a partner, and she will when the time is right,” an Us Weekly insider noted. However, that time may not be right quite yet.

“She needs some lightness back in her life,” though that may not include a path toward marrying again. Clarkson remains based in New York City for now, where the family is “very happy.” She’s cautious to make big changes in the lives of her kids right now given their father’s death, sources told Us Weekly.

Ultimately, however, she may move back to Tennessee with her children. A source noted, “Kelly prefers the quality of life she had in Nashville. It’s a slower [lifestyle] where she can focus on her creative projects at her own pace,” a source shared.

“She wants music to be her legacy,” a source added.
