The Vivacious Carmen Electra Would Do a ‘Baywatch’ Reboot Under 1 Condition

Original fans of “Baywatch” will surely know that Carmen Electra appeared on the show as lifeguard Lani McKenzie for one season back in 1997. Now, the star has been asked about potentially joining the reboot and has an answer that should make fans happy.

“It could be fun,” she told TMZ on September 26. However, she did bring up one potential issue, saying, “I don’t know if I’d want to be in the water.”

“It’s the ocean, you know? I love being around the ocean,” she said. She then explained, “Working in it is very different. When you’re working in the ocean, it is very complicated.”

Beyond that, she noted, “I could do the slow-motion run. I can definitely do that. And I still look really good in that suit, so that is not a problem. But the water — maybe I could be a captain!”

The ‘Baywatch’ Reboot Will Feature a ‘Hot New Cast’

Whether or not Electra will be part of a new “Baywatch” series may not have been decided yet; however, a reboot is definitely in the works. Starting off with a 12-episode season, per a press release (via People), the release also noted that the show will feature a “hot new cast, adrenaline, romance, slo-mo spectacle and the iconic red swimsuit!”

“The series reboot will celebrate the franchise’s enduring legacy, while re-energizing it for today’s global audience,” according to the show’s logline.

What exactly does that mean? Well, “[f]ans can expect all the adrenaline-fueled rescues, tangled relationships, complicated chemistry and beachside heroics that defined the original — now with an entirely new cast, contemporary trappings, tensions and challenges, and a renewed mission to protect Southern California’s shoreline.”

‘Baywatch’ Will ‘Bring the California Dream to a Whole New Generation’

When the first “Baywatch” appeared on TV, the show earned itself countless fans. Now, the reboot aims to charm another generation.

“In its first run, ‘Baywatch’ defined an entire era of beach life and elevated lifeguards to an iconic status,”said Michael Thorn, President of Fox Television Network, according to Variety. “Now, with our partners at Fremantle, this television juggernaut is set for a modern-day comeback.”

Thorn added: “Together, Fox and Fremantle, along with Matt Nix and original co-creator Greg Bonann, will bring the California dream to a whole new generation of fans with fresh stories, rising stars and all the spectacle that make the ‘Baywatch’ franchise a global sensation.”
