Hollywood is mourning the loss of actress Diane Keaton, who passed away on Oct. 11 at the age of 79. A-list stars who have worked closely with Keaton, including Goldie Hawn, Bette Midler, Leonardo DeCapario, and Jane Fonda, all paid touching tributes to the late actress.
The latest tribute to Keaton comes from director Francis Ford Coppola, who worked with Keaton on all three “The Godfather” films. Keaton portrayed Kay Adams-Corleone, the second wife of Michael Corleone, portrayed by Al Pacino.

Francis Ford Coppola, the director behind “The Godfather” trilogy, is the latest Hollywood star to pen a touching tribute to Diane Keaton, who passed away on Oct. 11. Sharing a photo of Keaton portraying Kay Adams and another snap of her smiling alongside Al Pacino, he called the late actress “endlessly intelligent.”
“Words can’t express the wonder and talent of Diane Keaton. Endlessly intelligent, so beautiful. From her earliest performances in “Hair” and throughout her amazing career, she was an extraordinary actor,” Coppola’s tribute began.
“I saw her in the film “Lovers and Other Strangers” and knew I had to have her play Kay in The Godfather, (which she told me she based on my wife Ellie) and her wonderful work in “Annie Hall” while simultaneously setting a new fashion trend. Everything about Diane was creativity personified.”
Those in the comment section thanked Coppola for his bittersweet tribute, including thanking the director for “discovering” Keaton.
“You discovered her. Thank you for making one of the greatest films of all time, and for showing the world Diane Keaton,” a fan wrote.
“The Godfather” is regarded as one of the most influential films ever made and won Best Picture at the 45th Academy Awards.

GettySeveral of Keaton’s former co-stars took to social media to pen touching tributes to the late actress, remembering her brilliant work ethic and extraordinary acting career. One of those former co-stars was Robert De Niro, who worked alongside Keaton in “The Godfather Part II.”
In a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, De Niro shared, “I am very sad to hear of Diane’s passing. I was very fond of her and the news of her leaving us has taken me totally by surprise. I was not expecting her to leave us. She will be missed. May she rest in peace.”
Besides working together in “The Godfather Part II” film, De Niro and Keaton also starred together in 1996’s “Marvin’s Room,” 2013’s “The Big Wedding,” and 2020’s “Father of the Bride Part 3 (ish).”
