Kelly Clarkson Has Priceless Reaction to Reba McEntire’s Hilarious On-Air Snub

“The Voice” coach Kelly Clarkson was shocked when Reba McEntire hilariously snubbed her in favor of John Legend during the show’s Blind Auditions.

Clarkson and McEntire, who remain close after the “Breakaway” singer divorced the country superstar’s late stepson, Brandon Blackstock, lovingly faced off against one another, to Legend’s delight. Their interaction was pure joy.

What did Reba McEntire Say About Kelly Clarkson on ‘The Voice?’

According to E! News, Reba McEntire’s message came after Kelly Clarkson tried to get a country artist to join her team. Since Blake Shelton’s departure in 2023, Clarkson is now looking to fill her team with a balance of singers, including several standout country artists.

Coach John Legend told auditioning contestant Julia Golden, “We don’t have a pure country artist on this dais here. Kelly believes that she’s entitled to every country artist.”

Clarkson’s response? “I don’t feel that, I know that.”

At that moment, Legend introduced a clip from McEntire. She had the last word in Clarkson and Legend’s playful banter.

“He’s absolutely fantastic. He’s a genius. He can do anything. He plays, he sings, he mentors—I know,” McEntire said. “I’m the Queen of Country Music, and I endorse John Legend. I approve this message.”

In a TikTok clip, Legend told the cameras he was texting McEntire to “thank her for that amazing video endorsing the possibility that I could coach country on ‘The Voice.’ Despite everyone’s belief that I can’t do it.”

How Did Kelly Clarkson respond to Reba McEntire’s Playful Message?

Kelly Clarkson jokingly told “The Voice” cameras that Reba McEntire’s playful message was “shady.”

“I called her, I was like ‘wait,'” Clarkson quipped. “I was so glad she answered and wasn’t busy doing [the TV series] ‘Happy’s Place.’ She’s taping right down the lane.”

“But I won,” Clarkson said of getting vocalist Julia Golden on her team. John Legend hoped that McEntire’s message would help him sway the contestant to his side, “and it almost worked.”

Although the first “American Idol” winner began her career as a pop-rock artist, she crossed into the country music field around 2007 reported Britannica. She gave her power ballad “Because of You” a country spin via a collaboration with McEntire, recorded a duet with Jason Aldean, “Don’t You Wanna Stay,” that same year, and collaborated with Vince Gill on “Don’t Rush” two years later.

“The Voice” airs Mondays at 9 p.m. ET on NBC. New episodes air the next day on Peacock.
