Former “The Voice” coach Nick Jonas stepped into a “new life” with wife Priyanka Chopra Jonas, she reveals in a new interview.
In an interview for Mythical Kitchen’s Last Meals, Chopra Jonas told host John Scherer that she experienced a shift in her relationship with the Jonas Brothers guitarist and singer after celebrating their engagement in India.
The couple partook in a traditional Roka. This ceremony, according to The Knot, ” is a symbol of the couple stopping their search for a partner because they have committed to their spouse-to-be.” Chopra Jonas said that during the ceremony, the significance of her impending union to the entertainer truly hit her.
The Massive Shift Priyanka Chopra Jonas Felt With Nick Jonas
Priyanka Chopra Jonas claimed that during the Roka ceremony, she felt a shift in her relationship with Nick Jonas. She said during her “Last Meals” interview that she didn’t experience that feeling when they became engaged in July 2018.
“The Bluff” star explained the ceremony that changed her thinking. “We had, like, four pundits, which are Indian priests, sitting and chanting. I walked down, and my mom had changed the whole downstairs —all the couches were moved, there was low seating, there was a Havan Kund in the middle, which is for a fire ceremony, and there were these pundits just chanting. The whole feeling was as if I was walking into a new life.”
Chopra Jonas added, “It didn’t hit me when he put the ring on my finger. But when we walked in hand in hand, I was like, ‘Oh, things are shifting. This is different.'”
She conclued, “I go from my mom to my husband. [I’m] choosing my family. So the gravity of that was not lost on either of us.”
When Did Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra Jonas Marry?
Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra Jonas married in two spectacular ceremonies, as reported by PEOPLE.
The first faith-based ceremony was Christian, a nod to Jonas’ religious beliefs. It was held at the Umaid Bhawan Palace in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. Jonas’ father, Kevin Jonas Sr., officiated the December 1, 2018, nuptials. Both the bride and groom wore custom Ralph Lauren outfits.
Chopra Jonas told PEOPLE, “Walking out and seeing him standing at the altar for the first time with the sun behind him was just something out of a fairytale for me. As much as we planned, I could not have planned for how perfect that sky was, or how the birds flew when the music started, or what the string quartet sounded like, or what he looked like. Everything was perfect.”
A second Hindu ceremony was held on December 2. The actress and producer wore a traditional red lehenga, custom-made by Indian fashion designer Sabyasachi. PEOPLE reported that the dress featured Jonas’ name and her parents’ names sewn into her waistband. The singer and songwriter wore a traditional Hindu wedding outfit.
Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra have been married for seven years. They share a four-year-old daughter Malti.
