Just days after Whitney Leavitt stepped away from her starring role in “Chicago” on Broadway, Mark Ballas is out for a few shows as well.
Theatergoers have been purchasing tickets in droves to see the iconic “Dancing With the Stars” pair perform. But audience members know just how important it is for the stars to put their health and well-being first.
On social media, Mark Ballas issued an apology to his loyal fans and explained why the decision wasn’t up to him.
Mark Ballas Sits Out ‘Chicago’ Performance Due to Poor Health
DisneyProfessional dancer Mark Ballas and reality star Whitney Leavitt became fast friends after meeting on DWTS. Fans excitedly jumped at the chance to see them perform together again after they joined the cast of “Chicago” on Broadway as leads Billy Flynn and Roxie Hart.
Sadly, both Mark and Whitney have struggled with health issues over the past week. As Whitney recovered, Mark began to fall ill as well. Now, the 39-year-old is addressing the situation on social media, asking fans for their patience and understanding.
“It hurts my hear to write this, but yesterday I woke up unwell and have been hit with a viral illness,” Mark vulnerably shared on his Instagram stories.
“I am trying to rest to be able to get back on my feet as soon as possible, but after visiting the doctors and doing some tests, I have been advised to sit tonight’s show out,” he continued. Although fans felt disappointed, they wanted the dancer to look after himself first and foremost.
“I apologize to all those who were coming to see me tonight, but this is unfortunately out of my hands. I will keep you posted on my progress,” Mark concluded the update.
“Chicago” Continues to Break Box Office Records
Despite the ongoing health issues with the cast, “Chicago” on Broadway has done remarkably well at the box office after signing Whitney Leavitt and Mark Ballas.
“WE DID IT!! @whitleavitt broke this record back in March & we just did it AGAIN together,” Mark shared on Instagram this week. “Last week was the highest grossing week in 30 years for @chicagomusical we could not have done this without you all coming to see us perform or without this wonderful cast, orchestra & crew. What a dream to be a part of Broadway History for this incredible Classic Show 🥹🙏🏼”
With these two at the helm of the ship, anything seems possible. Hopefully, both Mark and Whitney make full recoveries and can continue performing to the best of their abilities.
Mark Ballas and Whitney Leavitt star in “Chicago” now through May 3. Tickets are available on the official Broadway website.
