Carrie Underwood isn’t your typical country music superstar. The “American Idol” judge shares how many of her hobbies skew a little bit older — and definitely keep her grounded in reality.
Carrie Underwood Reveals Love of ‘Granny Hobbies’
During a February 2026 interview with “On the Red Carpet,” Underwood shared that she finds joy in some “granny” hobbies as well as in mundane household chores.
“I have granny hobbies. I love to crochet. I love to do a little birdwatching and I have sourdough, and I make my own kombucha, and I love to grow hot peppers and make my own fermented hot sauce,” the singer explained.
Underwood continued, “Everything is very compartmentalized and this entertainment world that we live in is not reality.”
“Reality is vacuuming and cleaning toilets and doing laundry and gardening and cooking — and that’s a world I love,” she added.
Fans lit up the comments section with praise for the country star keeping it real.
“That’s great, the way it should be. Good for you,” one fan wrote.
Another fan noted, “That’s why we all love Carrie.”
“Carrie is down to Earth and I have such respect for her,” one person commented.
Underwood Shows Off Her Non-Musical Talents
The “American Idol” judge has shown off some of her hobbies on social media, including her canning skills in a June 2025 Instagram post. Underwood explained that she had been hard at work preserving food in jars so that nothing went to waste.
“My boys were away for the weekend so I decided to get rid of some of the stuff that was in the big freezer,” she wrote in the caption. “Canning is the perfect way to make use of everything and save myself some time later on when I need a quick meal!”
The singer continued, “I put about 35 (??) ish pheasants into some soup and pot pie filling, got rid of some of last year’s black and blueberries and made some cobbler filling and tried to do something with all the plums we’ve got growing here. Not sure if I made jam or plum butter or some sort of sauce out of it, but I’ll figure out something to do with it!”
“I feel accomplished!!! Yay me!” she added.
In a May 2025 Instagram post, Underwood gave fans a look at her crocheting talents.
“Got to wear my tomato top yesterday to the Idol set! I’m so happy how it turned out,” she wrote at the time. “I just kept it really simple and added a ruffle at the bottom. Now what should I make?”
Fans loved seeing Underwood’s crafting skills on display. “Good job Carrie!! Make a bucket hat next to wear when you’re in your garden,” one fan commented.
Others praised the singer, writing, “So cute!” and “You did an amazing job.”
