‘Top Chef’ Pays Tribute to Kyle Busch After NASCAR Star’s Death

Just one day after NASCAR star Kyle Busch’s shocking death sent waves through both sports and entertainment, Bravo’s “Top Chef” shared an emotional public tribute to the two-time Cup Series champion.

On Friday, May 22, the official “Top Chef” Instagram account posted a message honoring Busch, who appeared earlier this season during a NASCAR-themed challenge filmed at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

“We were deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Kyle Busch,” the post read. “Sending our sincerest condolences to his family, friends, and the NASCAR community at this time.”

The post quickly spread across social media as fans from both NASCAR and Bravo reacted to the unexpected crossover tribute.

Busch appeared on Season 23 of “Top Chef” during a special Quickfire Challenge filmed at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

The March 2026 episode blended the worlds of NASCAR and culinary competition, with chefs tasked with preparing dishes under intense time pressure while race cars circled the speedway. Busch and fellow NASCAR legend Jimmie Johnson appeared as guest judges during the challenge.

The crossover episode stood out as one of the season’s more unexpected moments, especially for viewers outside the racing world.

At the time, the appearance highlighted NASCAR’s growing presence in mainstream entertainment and lifestyle television. And Busch was one of the sport’s main stars to help accomplish just that. Now, less than a day after Busch’s death, many fans are revisiting the episode through a much more emotional lens.

Photos from the episode showed Busch alongside “Top Chef” host Kristen Kish and judges Tom Colicchio and Gail Simmons at the track in Charlotte.

Busch’s Death Continues to Shock NASCAR Fans

News of Busch’s death broke Thursday evening and immediately became one of the biggest trending stories across social media.

Tributes have continued pouring in from drivers, teams, broadcasters, celebrities, and fans across the sports world. Busch’s death has also reached audiences far beyond traditional NASCAR circles, in part because of how recognizable he became outside the sport over the years.

Busch was widely considered one of the most talented — and polarizing — drivers of his generation. Along with winning Cup Series championships in 2015 and 2019, he became one of the winningest drivers in NASCAR history across all three national series.

His personality, success, and willingness to embrace crossover opportunities helped make him one of NASCAR’s biggest mainstream stars.

‘Top Chef’ Tribute Shows Busch’s Reach Beyond Racing

For many fans, Bravo’s tribute underscored just how far Busch’s influence extended beyond the racetrack.

While NASCAR and Bravo rarely overlap culturally, Busch’s appearance on “Top Chef” introduced him to a different audience earlier this year and created one of the more memorable crossover moments of the season.

The tribute also reflected how quickly news of Busch’s death spread throughout entertainment television and pop culture.

Less than 24 hours after the news broke, one of Bravo’s biggest franchises publicly honored the NASCAR champion — a sign of just how deeply the loss is resonating far outside the racing garage.
