“Dancing with the Stars” star Mark Ballas has taken to social media to show the moment he surprised his famous dad on his recent birthday.
The dancer, choreographer, singer-songwriter, musician, and actor, 39 — who finished sixth on the recent 34th season of “DWTS” with his celebrity partner Whitney Leavitt — posted a video on his Instagram account that captured the exact moment the surprise party he planned for his father, Corky, got underway.
Corky — a retired competitive ballroom dancer who won several Latin dance championship titles during his impressive career — turned 65 on Christmas Day, having been born on December 25, 1960.

The 53-second video, which Ballas shared with his 1.1 million followers on December 26, is captioned “Surprising my dad for his Birthday. We got him good 🥹.”
Ballas begins by speaking into the camera and saying, “We’re about to surprise my dad for his 65th birthday! He has no idea.” Ballas then continues, saying, “Family’s here. Here we go!”
Viewers then see the party’s attendees hiding behind a wall (including a lady referred to as “my dad’s little sister” in an on-screen caption as she gets into position) in what is presumably Ballas’ beautiful home. The caption “HERE WE GO” then appears on screen, Ballas gives a countdown, then he quickly rushes around the corner to surprise his father and shouts “SURPRISE” as he enters.
Corky looks genuinely (pleasantly) aghast, with his mouth wide open, then mouths an expletive that we couldn’t possibly repeat here!
Ballas then gives his dad a huge hug and gives a thumbs-up to the camera, indicating the surprise had definitely gone as planned — at which point the shocked Corky mouths the same unrepeatable expletive again!
Corky then takes in the sight of his whole family, shares another hug with Mark, and says, “Oh my god, that’s amazing,” before receiving a loving kiss on the cheek from his son.
The video ends with Corky still looking equally shocked and happy at the sight of his family.
It’s a truly lovely and joyous video showing a magical moment that captures the warmth and togetherness of the festive period perfectly.
