Before signing on for “Dancing with the Stars” Season 34, Robert Irwin was loved for his work as a wildlife conservationist and celebrated for being part of one of the nicest families ever! However, the show has allowed fans to really get to know Irwin better and see him as the wonderful, positive young man he is.
Robert Irwin’s DWTS Season 34 Journey
Audiences also saw him blossom as a dancer. He started with no experience, and his natural talent was absolutely jaw-dropping. There’s a reason so many people want Irwin to be the new Mirrorball champion, but who knew he would have such an impact on the show?
Irwin was the first celebrity contestant to be announced for Season 34. His announcement was made in April. Since then, fans have been curious to learn more about him, and when the show officially started, fans witnessed him perform with passion and emotion. His Dedication Night dance in honor of his mother, Terri Irwin, was a celebration of her strength and resilience after the sudden passing of his father, Steve Irwin. It remains one of the most moving performances on the show.
It’s not just emotional dances that Irwin has won over fans and the judges with, though. His energy and charisma made him the perfect, versatile dancer and the king of Jive.
A Lasting Friendship
Irwin’s DWTS experience would not have been what it was had it not been for his beautiful and dedicated partner, Witney Carson. The pair has one of the most genuine connections fans have seen on the show, and they’ve formed a sibling bond. Irwin has referred to Carson as a “best friend” and “big sister,” and she’s done the same.
It’s impossible not to love them as partners and friends, even if they may have seemed like an unlikely pair at the start. In a November 11 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Carson reflected on how she “never in a million years” thought she would dance alongside Irwin. She first met him as a child in 2015 when he supported his older sister, Bindi Irwin, on her own DWTS journey.
“Even when [it] was announced earlier in the year that he was going to be on the show, I still didn’t think that we would be partnered together,” Carson said. “It was honestly a true shock when he walked through the door when we first met [as partners], and that was my genuine reaction of just, like, ‘Oh my gosh. Like, I have a Robert Irwin [as my partner.] I’ve adored their family for years. I love Bindi, so it feels very full circle.”
What a beautiful journey this has been!
