Witney Carson Opens Up About Feeling ‘Protective’ of ‘DWTS’ Partner Robert Irwin

Witney Carson and Robert Irwin are proving that “Dancing With the Stars” partnerships aren’t just about choreography, they’re about connection. As the pair continues to light up the ballroom each week on “DWTS” season 34, Carson revealed she’s grown “protective” of her 21-year-old partner, describing their dynamic as more of a “brother-sister” bond than a competitive duo.

A ‘Brother & Sister Duo’ on ‘Dancing With the Stars’

After their latest performance during Disney Night on “Dancing With the Stars’ 2025, Robert and Witney talked with Us Weekly. Irwin said, “We are just having the best time. I feel like we’ve become like this brother and sister duo.”

Carson agreed, even explaining how she is watching over him. Witney said, “100 percent. I feel very protective over him, especially when the DMs get a little crazy. I get a little protective.”

Witney has previously mentioned that she has been playing matchmaker for Irwin since the season began. She joked about her DMs being flooded with applicants hoping to land a date with the wildlife conservationist, especially after his shirtless performance during week 3.

Carson told Us Weekly, “He is an absolute dream partner and very humble. I gotta knock him down a little bit sometimes, keep you grounded, critique you a little bit more. But no, he is just as great as you guys see on TV.”

Disney Night Announcement

That chemistry was on full display last night on “Dancing With the Stars” season 34, as Disney Night took over the ballroom. The couple performed a Cha Cha to “Try Everything” from “Zootopia.”

Irwin was very excited to move those hips, like Shakira. But he was also excited about his first movie, as they revealed in the video before their performance.

Robert will be voicing a character in the upcoming “Zootopia 2” movie. In the cutest moment, we saw Robert see his character, who happens to be named “Robert Furwin,” on the big screen.

The duo then went on to dance the Cha Cha, which earned them a score of 22 out of 30 from the judges. There were no shirtless moments this week, which he explained to Us Weekly.

“We wanted to change the vibe a little bit and to really have the same sort of fun and fluidity, but in a completely different dance,” Irwin said. “The cha-cha was such a challenge, but so much fun and great to represent a movie like Zootopia. Shakira starts playing, and the hips just start going. There’s no two ways about it.”

Robert and Witney survived the elimination at the end of the episode, as we shockingly saw Hilaria Baldwin & Gleb Savchenko eliminated from the show. Irwin and Carson will be back with another routine next week.

“Dancing With the Stars” season 34 airs on ABC and Disney+ on Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET, with new episodes available to stream the next day on Hulu.
