Hallmark Alum Opens Up About Identity Struggles & More in New Interview

Alexa PenaVega isn’t just the actress you remember from Hallmark rom-coms. She’s also a real person who’s been figuring out life and her own sense of worth. In a recent interview with Streams Studio, Alexa got candid about stepping back from the entertainment world. She’s redefining her identity and finding peace in her faith. Spoiler alert: it’s inspiring and kind of comforting. Hearing someone admit that even in Hollywood, one can get lost in the hustle? Relatable.

When Work Becomes Your Whole Life

Alexa’s story hits different if you’ve ever felt like your job defines you. “I didn’t realize that my work was my identity,” she said. “You are so stressed about, particularly for me, being relevant, like really wanting people to care about me, really wanting people to see my worth. And it was just so important that I had a good job and that I was making it in the industry and that I was valued.”

Starting her acting career at a very young age, Alexa spent decades waiting for approval from directors, co-stars, and whoever else was in a position to validate her work. “It was kind of hard walking through life and outside of my job,” she admitted. “How do I walk through life and not ask somebody if I did it right, but just go to God and say, okay, God, did I do that right?”

Yep. That’s some deep Hollywood-meets-real-life struggle right there.

Finding Faith, Peace, & Carlos

The turning point came during her first Bible study… an event that, fun fact, also led to meeting her husband, Carlos PenaVega of “Big Time Rush” fame. “There’s so much more. I really feel like the biggest change was just this immense peace, just feeling like, okay, I know the Lord,” she said. Alexa describes it as a moment where everything started clicking: “I have him in my heart. I have him available to talk to me all the time.”

As her faith grew, so did her boundaries. Scenes that used to feel fine suddenly didn’t. The language, the content; it no longer felt like her. Eventually, she and Carlos signed an exclusive deal with Great American Family, starring in 2024’s “Get Him Back for Christmas” (a.k.a. “Love At The Kettle”) and “Mr. Manhattan.”

“It’s really about being in that space,” she said. “The Lord knows who we are supposed to be. He knows who he created. He knit us together in our mother’s wounds. Like he just made us for something so specific. I just want to be in that space.”

Alexa PenaVega’s Hallmark Hits

Fans will remember Alexa from Hallmark favorites like “Ms. Matched” (2016), “Destination Wedding” (2017), “Enchanted Christmas” (2017), “Love at Sea” (2018), “Christmas Made to Order” (2018), the “Picture Perfect Mysteries” series (2019-2020), and “Taking a Shot at Love” (2021). Her journey shows that sometimes stepping back isn’t quitting… it’s finding your peace, your purpose, and your own version of success.

Alexa PenaVega’s story is a reminder that worth isn’t tied to roles, accolades, or social media likes. It’s about knowing yourself, standing in your values, and finding a little peace along the way. No matter one’s faith, that’s something we can all strive for.

    • I thought I liked her, but any actor who talks about God and also signs with Candy’s network that’s based on exclusion and so is very un-God, gets none of my respect or attention.
