However, it turns out that the star may have looked very different if it weren’t for a shocking incident that took place when he was just a teenager.
A Broken Nose Completely Changed Chad’s Look
As hard as it might be to believe, the photo above is, indeed, a shot of Chad Michael Murray. It happens to be his yearbook photo from back in 1999.
If you’re wondering why he looks so different as a teenager, it turns out that when he was just 18 years old, “he survived a random attack by ‘three guys’ at a Burger King in an incident that caused serious damage to his nose,” according to The Daily Mail. As a result, he “underwent surgery at the Los Angeles hospital Cedar Sinai.”
Indeed, Murray opened up to Entertainment Weekly in June 2004 about what happened, saying, “I got jumped in a Burger King when I was 18 and had my nose put on the other side of my face. It was three guys — what the hell was I supposed to do? The doctors didn’t even bother running X-rays. They just reset it. But it wasn’t a nose job — I hate the fact that people say it was a nose job!”
When the story behind Murray’s nose found its way onto Reddit on Sunday, April 5, it sparked plenty of reactions, with one person writing, “It’s quite the change to his face.”
“There’s no way this is the same person. Someone help,” another fan added.
A third Reddit user wrote, “He’s handsome in both ways.”
Someone else left a comment, saying, “Nose jobs are so crazy because that one change can make you look like a completely different person. Like, would his iPhone facial recognition have unlocked for him post-surgery? Probably not!”

His hair is as golden and swoopy as ever, with patches of gray now coming for his beard. A few lines creep across his forehead. “You may not know it, but you watching me on Gilmore Girls has a lasting impact. It makes a little notch in your heart and actually shapes who you are ever so slightly,” he told The Cut. “Even when we’re old and I’ve got crazy gray hair and everything else, we will still have that bond.”
