Longtime Hallmark star Jodie Sweetin, 43, has been open about her past struggles with addiction after her rise to stardom as a child actor on “Full House.”
But while appearing on “The Skinny Confidential” podcast on November 20, 2025, the actress admitted her drug and alcohol use got so bad, she didn’t expect to make it out of her 20s.

Sweetin was a teenager when “Full House” ended in 1995, and it wasn’t long before she started dabbling in drugs and alcohol, according to Sober Nation, including drinking two bottles of wine at co-star Candace Cameron Bure’s wedding when she was just 14.
Podcast hosts Lauryn Evarts Bosstick and Michael Bosstick asked Sweetin if she ever had a moment when she hit rock bottom in her alcohol and drug use, realizing she needed help.
“I think I knew for a very long time that I was heading down a road that (would lead to) jails, institutions or death, like they talk about in 12-step programs,” Sweetin replied. “Those, like, become your three options. And I was getting very close there.”
She added, “I mean, I did not think I would probably see my 30th birthday at the way I was going in my, like, mid- 20s, like 24, 25. And I didn’t plan on it. I was like, I guess this is what we’re doing.”
Sweetin said she always drank too much, noting, “I was not a person who was like, ‘Oh, let’s just like sip wine with dinner.’ I was like, ‘If we ain’t doing a bottle, what’s the point?’ You know what I mean? I always knew that my goal was, like, blackout drinking or just getting as wasted as possible.”

HallmarkIn Sweetin’s 2009 book “Unsweetined,” she revealed that her drug use, including ecstasy and cocaine, escalated over a 15-year span. In one nine-month span between 2006 and 2007, she estimated she spent nearly $60,000 on drugs, per Today.com.
Around the same time, she went through her first divorce, from husband Shaun Holguin. But in 2010, she got remarried to Cody Herpin and, she told the Bossticks, “quickly found out that I was pregnant after that.”
“You know, everything changed,” she said. “It was up and down. It wasn’t perfect. I haven’t, you know, had a perfect journey, but that really was the thing, I think, that changed everything. It was like, ‘Oh, okay, it’s like party time’s done.'”
Sweetin and Herpin, who later divorced, welcomed daughter Beatrix that August. The “Jane Mysteries” star said on the podcast that she realized, “Like, ‘You got to take care of somebody else’ … and also, like, I did make it this far. I am a mom now. Like, oh, wow. … I didn’t think I was going to make it to this.'”
