HGTV’s Ben Napier Wants to ‘Get Awkward With People’ for the Holidays

Beloved HGTV stars Erin and Ben Napier are on a mission that could make some people pretty uncomfortable, but it’s all about spreading love for the holidays.

The “Home Town” stars have partnered with Bob’s Red Mill to “help prioritize human connection this year with NeighborsGiving,” Erin said in a promotional video released on November 18, 2025.

The couple said the idea of NeighborsGiving is to encourage people across the country to make a concerted effort to reach out to neighbors and strangers during the holiday season, using baked goods as a point of connection. Ben’s excited about the initiative, he said, because he actually loves an awkward moment with people he doesn’t know — and he hopes others will find the magic in it, too.

Erin & Ben Napier Say Encourage Fans to Deliver Baked Goods to Neighbors They Barely Know

In the promo video for NeighborsGiving, Erin explained the idea “is all about reaching out to people in your neighborhood who you might not know as well, who may be going through loneliness and loss this year, who might be doing a holiday for the first time by themselves, and thinking of ways to make them feel loved by baking.”

She continued, “Bring them food to say, ‘I thought about you and I want to know how you’re doing.'”

Ben then interjected, “Yeah, I mean, anytime you can bring food to someone, it’s going to make it less awkward (to) get together. Even though I love the awkwardness of it. I want to get awkward with people.”

Ben & Erin Napier Have Released Some of Their Favorite Recipes for NeighborsGiving

Bob’s Red Mill created an online gathering spot dedicated to encouraging what the company calls “moregetherness.” It includes recipes for baked goods, including Erin’s favorite treat to make for neighbors and friends — Zucchini Oatmeal Bars.

She also provided the company, which produces all kinds of baking essentials from whole grain oats to baking flours, with the recipe for her grandma Ouida’s Buttermilk Biscuits.

“We are firm believers that open doors lead to open hearts,” Erin said in a statement. “When I bake, it’s not unusual for me to make extra and run it over to a neighbor or a tired mama friend. It’s also a great reason to pop in and say hello. It only takes a few minutes, but those little touchpoints are what help knit a community together.”

According to a 2025 survey by Bob’s Red Mill, 54% of Americans have baked or made food to share with their neighbors in the last year, and 55% had a neighbor do the same for them.
