New HGTV Star Reveals Devastating Health Struggle: ‘I Had to Learn How to Walk Again’

90s TV icon and new HGTV star Brian Austin Green is opening up about a health issue that left him unable to walk.

“It took about four and a half years to recover from,” the “Beverly Hills, 90210” star told psychotherapist Kara Mayer Robinson during the Wednesday, August 26, episode of the “Really Famous” podcast.

Neurological Disorder

The “Dancing With the Stars” alum — who is currently engaged to his professional partner, Sharna Burgess — opened up about an undiagnosed neurological disorder th

“All of a sudden, I ended up with this neurological thing, and it was like stroke-like symptoms,” Green said, adding that he was around 40 years old at the time. “It was never completely diagnosed, but I had internal inflammation—so from diet. And then they think just emotional stress, not handling things well.”

He continued, “It took about four and a half years to recover from. I had to learn how to walk again and talk again. I had to learn how to sort of do everything again. I couldn’t read. I couldn’t write. I couldn’t—who I was essentially was no more.”

Green — who was married to ex-wife Megan Fox at the time — previously told Cheryl Burke during a 2023 episode of her podcast, “Sex, Likes and Spray Tans,” that his disability “got to the point where I shuffled like I was a 90-year-old man.”

According to his conversation with Mayer Robinson, Green had to rediscover who he was as a musician, actor, and human.

“My brain and my body completely disconnected,” he said. “[It] was like, am I going to have to reinvent myself like?”

The Years Since

Brian and Megan — who were already parents to son Noah — went on to welcome two more children together: Bodhi in 2014 and Journey in 2016.

“She was in there with me,” Brian said about his ex-wife helping him through his disease. “She was young when we started dating and it was a massive thing for her to go through at a young age. She was solely responsible for making money and the household, because I couldn’t do anything. I couldn’t function. Just a huge amount of pressure on her. I think at some point it just really became the thing that broke the relationship. It just got too heavy.”

They ultimately split after nearly 15 years together, calling it quits on their marriage in 2020. Their divorce was finalized the following year.

Things turned around for the former Hallmark star, however. In 2020, Green was set up on a date with professional dancer Sharna Burgess. The two hit it off and made their relationship Instagram official in January 2021.

That fall, they were partnered together for season 30 of “Dancing With the Stars.” Despite finishing in 13th place, Green seemingly took home the real prize, announcing their pregnancy in February 2022.

Sharna gave birth to son Zane Walker Green that June, one year before Brian popped the question.

Brian — who is also father to son Kassius, whom he shares with ex Vanessa Marcil — is set to star in the upcoming HGTV series, “Totally ’90s House.”
