Think the “Property Brothers” have seen it all? Turns out, even HGTV’s Drew and Jonathan Scott have made some major design mistakes, and they’re finally confessing the worst of them.
Property Brothers’ Reveal Their Biggest Design Mistakes
The Scott brothers took to social media to share design and remodel tips for those hoping to tackle a home renovation project. Their goal was to “help you avoid mistakes during your next home project,” they captioned their video, which was shared via YouTube on Thursday, November 13.
According to the “Celebrity IOU” stars, when renovating a home, one should always be prepared for bumps in the road.
“Just because there’s an issue that comes up, don’t beat yourself up,” Drew began. “You can do this, it’s just how you roll with the punches.”
He added, “Complaining is like a rocking chair–it’ll give you something to do but it won’t get you anywhere.”
Jonathan added a helpful tip, recommending not to have such a “tight” schedule that if one thing goes wrong, “it throws everything else off.”
He also referred back to the old saying of “measure twice, cut once.”
“Someone like me should probably measure four, five or six time,” Drew joked.
The HGTV stars encourage fans to not follow trends as they often quickly go out of style.
“I remember in a renovation, we put in a countertop that was sort of a very dark, moody, heavy pattern,” Drew recalled. “It seemed cool at the time, but a year later it was definitely out of style. That’s a regretful thing because a stone countertop is a very expensive feature to change out.”
According to Jonathan, “The more bold you go, the faster it goes out of style.”
Other tips the brothers recommended include keeping track of your to-do list, not underestimating the scope of a project, trusting your gut, choosing function over fancy, and splurging when appropriate.
‘Property Brothers’ Thank Their Fans for Inspiring New Show
While the “Brother vs. Brother” stars admit to having made mistakes in their career, they continue to push forward with a new spinoff show.
Drew and Jonathan’s latest HGTV series, “Chasing the West,” reportedly all came about thanks to their fans.
“So we did a show, and it’s funny to take people outside the city to this ranch life,” Drew told Us Weekly earlier this month, explaining that the idea came about after fans often asked them what would happen “if we want to leave the city?”
He continued, “They thought it was gonna be easy, staring at the mountains and sipping their wine, but it’s hard work.”
