Solange Knowles took to her Instagram to debut a strikingly unique new hairstyle on Tuesday, April 21. The “Cranes In the Sky” singer shared several elegant black and white images of the new look, which featured a striped design shaved into her close-cropped hair.
The 39-year-old wore small, simple hoop earrings for the photos and a variety of different tops. In some of the shots, she donned a simple bandeau, while in others, she wore a plunging white halter top.
Solange is the mother of 21-year-old model Julez Smith, and the sister of Beyoncé.

GettySolange’s mother, Tina Knowles, reposted the photos to her own page and wrote in the caption, “You look like a beautiful Egyptian Goddess,” before adding the title is appropriate because Solange was “conceived on a boat going down Egyptian Nile.” She went on, “I always said you could shave your head and wear a garbage bag and still look gorgeous.”
Tina also declared that Solange turns “everything into art” and told the multitalented artist “I love you boldness.” In a comment on Solange’s photos, Tina said, “Only you could shave your hair let it grow out some and cut this incredible shape and do it all and look as gorgeous as ever,” before adding several fire and heart emojis.
Solange replied to Tina’s messages by thanking her mother for “being my divine north star.”

A few months before she debuted her shaved hair pattern, Solange posed in a tank of water wearing high heels and fishnet bodysuit with her hair sculpted into the shape of a star. Her fans and followers went wild over the look. Diana Ross’s daughter, Tracee Ellis Ross left 4 fire emojis to show her admiration, while rapper Doechii said, “Omgggg.”
A fan wrote, “Such a beautiful artist!! We love you Solange.”
Solange Recently Discussed Her Move to Nyack, New York & Nomadic Lifestyle
In February 2024, Solange, who has previously lived in locations such as New Orleans and Brooklyn, announced in an interview that she had moved to the tiny town of Nyack, New York, which has a population of around 7,500 people.
Nyack is currently the home of renowned journalist and beauty editor Jean Godrey-June, and is located right beside Upper Grandview, where Hailey Bieber grew up.
In an interview with AnOther magazine two years later, Solange vaguely talked about what the relocation means to her life. “I live so nomadically. And I feel very careful about what it means to take up space publicly in a place that I’m not sure I’ll stay in for long. But in my life now, I have a lot more fluidity to move around globally and to take the time to find wherever my new roots will be,” she explained.
She then addressed her recent approach to her art, saying, “There’s a level of fluidity and freeness in the way I’ve been creating lately, and knowing that while things live on for ever, nothing truly does. And that’s been such a freeing place and vantage point to create from, because I’ve been able to explore and experiment from a purely selfish place of nowness and this exact moment in time. That’s been healthy for me.”
