Hannah Brown is opening up about a major health step she says marks the start of her “family planning era.”
The former “Bachelorette” star, 31, revealed she recently underwent surgery for a rare uterine condition called a bicorporeal septate uterus, sharing the update in an April 27 Instagram Reel while recovering at home in matching pajamas, adult diapers and with help from her family.
“Putting adult diapers and all my matching pajamas into good use!!” Brown joked in her caption before explaining that she had finally gone through with a procedure she had been putting off for years.
According to People, Brown said the condition means her uterus is partially divided into two sides by a membrane, which can lead to infertility issues and miscarriages. After first being diagnosed with PCOS and getting an ultrasound, doctors initially thought she had a didelphys uterus, often called a “double uterus.”
After more testing, they confirmed it was actually a bicorporeal septate uterus.
“Basically my uterus is kind of separated into two sides, and that can lead to infertility issues,” she wrote, adding that the good news is the condition can be treated with surgery.
Why Hannah Decided It Was Time
Brown said she had known for a while she would need to address it before trying to have children one day, but life kept pushing it aside.
Between moving across the country, writing books, planning her wedding to Adam Woolard and buying a house, she said family planning had not been front of mind.
Still, she recently decided it was time to take what she called the “first step.”
“I still don’t know if I’m ready (does anyone ever fully feel ready?!) but it felt like time to take a first step — and this was that for me,” she wrote.
The condition affects about 1.5 out of every 100 women, according to the Cleveland Clinic.
Brown first opened up about the diagnosis during a May 2025 appearance on Maria Menounos’ “Heal Squad” podcast, where she said learning about it early was helpful because it gave her time to prepare before actively trying for children.
As previously reported, she underwent surgery in April 2026, nearly a year after first sharing the diagnosis. She posted hospital updates on Instagram Stories, including a selfie in her gown with the caption, “Today’s the day!”
Her husband later confirmed the procedure went well.
Recovery Includes Humor and Gratitude
Brown kept her sense of humor during recovery, even while sharing the less glamorous parts of healing.
In her Reel, she used “hallelujah” captions inspired by Justin Bieber’s Coachella performance, writing things like “Successful surgery hallelujah,” “Family planning era hallelujah,” and “My mom being my superhero hallelujah.”
She also showed followers the reality of recovery, including disposable underwear and a catheter she said she would have for two weeks.
She laughed that no one would catch her wearing leggings anytime soon.
Brown gave a special shoutout to Woolard and her parents for helping take care of her and said recovery has been smooth overall.
At the same time, she made it clear she knows how fortunate she is to have gotten answers before facing bigger heartbreak.
“So many women walk through loss and disappointment before getting answers, and that’s not lost on me,” she wrote.
She thanked women who had shared their own stories with her and encouraged her to share hers, saying she feels grateful to be taking this step toward her future.
