Leading into the finale, Cami fired Tommy from M-Tex Oil following disagreements tied to the offshore drilling project, reshaping the show’s power structure heading into the next season.

‘Landman’ Showrunner Discussed Building Toward Major Twists
“Landman,” which premiered in 2024, explores the oilfields of West Texas and the people whose lives revolve around the industry. Season 1 ended with the death of Monty Miller (Jon Hamm), positioning Cami as a more central figure within the company and the family’s future.
Executive producer Christian Wallace previously discussed how the series lays groundwork for large turns without making them feel sudden.
“You kind of drop these little pieces throughout the entire season,” Wallace told TV Insider in January 2025.
“There’s Monty checking his heart rate on his watch or his wife Cami telling him no more coffee and just little things that were dropped this entire time to kind of let you know that something’s going on so that when it does finally happen, it’s not just completely out of nowhere.”
Wallace added that the production works to balance foreshadowing and surprise.
“But you also don’t wanna be too heavy-handed about it and just telegraph that explicitly to the viewers,” he said. “So it’s just kind of a matter of trying to strike that balance of letting people know that there’s an issue without making it just the only thing that they can think about.”
