Conan O’Brien Breaks His Silence On Rob Reiner’s Passing Amid Holiday Party Shock

Beloved director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were tragically killed by their son, Nick Reiner, on Sunday, December 14. And the incident that led to this began at a holiday party at Conan O’Brien’s home, in which they got into an argument.

O’Brien has remained quiet following this tragedy, but has now broken his silence in an interview with David Remnick of The New Yorker.

“It’s just so awful,” O’Brien told the outlet. “And I think about how Rob felt about things that are happening in the country, how involved he was, how much he put himself out there — and to have that voice go quiet in an instant is still hard for me to comprehend.”

Conan O’Brien Opens Up About Having Seen Rob and Michele Reiner On The Night They Died

In the interview, O’Brien revealed how it’s been hard for him to wrap his head around having seen Rob and Michele on the night that they were killed.

“To have that experience of saying good night to somebody and having them leave and then find out the next day that they’re gone,” O’Brien told The New Yorker. . “I think I was in shock for quite a while afterward.”

It’s clear that they had a very close bond.

“I knew Rob and Michele, and then increasingly got closer and closer to them, and I was seeing them a lot,” he detailed. “My wife and I were seeing them a lot, and they were so—they were just such lovely people.

Rob Reiner’s Legacy Through The Eyes Of Conan O’Brien

There is no denying the incredible career Rob had, producing numerous iconic and legendary movies over the years, and O’Brien took a moment to highlight all he did.

“These people are so larger than life, especially if you’ve grown up watching them or appreciating their work. I mean, I just keep mulling over… the body of work, I think it’s seven movies that Rob Reiner made, in quick succession, that are classics,” O’Brien told The New Yorker. “Now, if you can make one great movie, that’s impressive. It’s an almost impossible feat. To make two means that you’re one of the greats. To make seven—in, like, a nine-year, ten-year, eleven-year period—is insanity.

  1. You know, maybe Rob Reiner “occupied” himself with politics because he refused to deal with a son who needed boundaries and discipline but was indulged and babied to the detriment of his two siblings. Rob’s priorities were not in order. The world could’ve gotten by without his liberal pontifications if he had chosen parenting over politics.
