Tony Danza Makes Honest Comments About the ‘Turning Point’ in His Career

Tony Danza is one of the most beloved actors and daytime talk show hosts thanks to “Taxi,” “Who’s the Boss,” and “The Tony Danza Show.” Now, he has a new movie, “Re-Election,” and he’s opening up about his career.

Danza spoke to US Weekly in January 2026. He said, “There’s an old saying that if you’re at war with the past, you have no future. It’s absolutely true, but it’s very hard not to go back. I’ve made some huge decisions that now I look back on and say, ‘I’m not sure about that one.’ You can’t help but wonder what might have been. … And that’s what we’re [talking about] in this movie.”

Regarding career regrets, he said, “I was hell-bent to be the funniest guy on TV. I wanted to do another sitcom [after Boss], and I got offered this part in a one-hour series, and I said, ‘[No], I’m gonna do a sitcom, that’s what I do.’

And I look back on it now, and I really think that was maybe a big turning point in what I’ve been aspiring to, what I want to do, and what I want out of my career. … I think I took a wrong turn there.”

Danza didn’t reveal the project, but stated, “It eats me up too much!”

‘Re-Election’ Was Released in 2025

“Re-Election’ premiered in select movie theaters in October 2025. In additon to Danza, the comedy stars Adam Saunders, Nathalie Kelley, Kym Whitley, Patty Guggenheim, and William Ragsdale. Saunders wrote and directed the movie.

The movie follows a 40-something-year-old man still haunted by losing his high school presidential election. As a result, he returns to the school in order to seek office again. Saunders plays the former student in the film.

“Re-Election” is currently available to rent from Prime Video and Apple TV.

Tony Danza Remains Busy These Days

Despite wishing he’d made different choices, Danza has had a stellar career and remains busy today. He joined the series “Power Book III: Raising Kanan” in 2022 during its second season. The actor opened up about his role on “Today” in 2024.

He said, “I want to talk to you about something else if I might. I’m on a show that I’m enjoying doing so much. I’m on a show called ‘Raising Kanan’ on the Starz network, and it’s with the most wonderful actors. It’s just a wonderfully made show. Terrific writing and I’m getting to play a character that I haven’t had the chance a lot in my career to play and it’s been the most fun I’ve ever had.”

He also opened up about the chance of a reboot for “Who’s the Boss” during the interview. He reluctantly said there is a chance. However, the planned Amazon series based on the iconic sitcom has since been scrapped.
