A teacher who worked with Rob and Michele Reiner and their children is giving the public a deeper understanding of Nick Reiner‘s relationship with his parents, as he is currentlyย facing murder chargesย in their deaths.
Alanna Zabel, an instructor and wellness expert who gave the Reiner’s private yoga lessons in the early 2000s, spoke with PEOPLE, saying that Nick’s struggles were โbeyond any of us,” while describing Rob and Michele as “incredibly passionate, all-in parents doing their best.” Specifically, she called Michele a ย โvery, very passionateโ mother,” who “lived for those kids. โฆ She was just very gracious and lovely.”
Zabel added that Nick “‘was notorious’ for making sessions attended with his mother difficult.”
“We never could get through one single yoga session without Nicky barging in and having an intense issue or meltdown, and it would really break up the flow of a yoga class,” she stated, adding that Nick’s childhood struggles were “a perfect storm.”
“One of those things where, as hard as they tried to manage it, get help, address it, it’s just beyond any of us to be able to diffuse,” Zabel said.

TMZ reportsย that Nick has โnot been able to processโ his actions fully.

Rather, heโs ‘in a fog’ โฆ in no small part due to his medical condition and the meds heโs taking,โ the outlet wrote. โOur source goes on to characterize Nick as ‘calm,’ ‘cognizant,’ and ‘dazed’ โ adding Nick isnโt even close to processing what happened.โ
He is currently being held in solitary confinement and on safety watch, according to PEOPLE, adding that he is required to wear a blue suicide-prevention smock at all times. He is not allowed to talk with anyone other than his lawyers and authorized jail personnel, and can only leave his cell for court appearances or medical reasons.
“This is important so that no one compromises this high-profile case, and so that no civilian or inmate can ask him questions, such as why he killed his parents,โ a police source told the outlet.

โTwo sources with direct knowledge tell TMZ โฆ Nick was under the care of a psychiatrist for mental illness,โ the outlet added. โWeโre told in the month before the murders, Nickโs behavior had gotten โalarming.’โ
TMZ went on to add that Nick โreceived care at a Los Angeles-based rehab facility that specializes in mental illness and substance abuse,โ and โ3 to 4 weeks before the murders, doctors changed his meds, and he became even more erratic.โ Doctors continued to try and adjust his medication, but โit wasnโt working.โ
โOne source told TMZ โฆ once the meds were changed, ‘Nick was out of his head,'” the outlet added. โOur sources also say Nickโs substance abuse was worsening the schizophrenia.”
I’ve read many reports that say that say Nick was doing well , until his meds were changed . If things were calm , why in the world would a Dr take him off them ? And when he began spiraling , why didn’t the Dr take him off the meds ( I cannot find anything on this.). Is this the kind of psychiatrist that sees a patient for ten minutes and prescribes pills and says ” we are out of time.” He needs to be investigated. He put Nick into a psychotic state. Not on purpose , but gross negligence. Nick needs to talk to a ” friend,”. Someone who is compassionate. I feel sorry for the entire family .
