Past Fan-Favorite ‘Survivor’ Star Releasing New Novel To Positive Reviews

Former “Survivor” contestant Stephen Fishbach is releasing his first novel and now has an official release date. The player, who was affectionately nicknamed “The Wizard” by fans of the show, has already received positive reviews for his debut book.

Stephen Fishbach’s Debut Novel Arrives in 2026

Per Parade, Fishbach’’s book is set to hit bookshelves on January 29, 2026. Titled “Escape!” it follows a group of competitors and crew who are trapped on a tropical island while competing in a reality show – an idea that is obviously inspired by the author’s own experiences on “Survivor.” The initial release is in hardback, with the book available to purchase from major booksellers and online outlets.

Fishbach previously appeared in both 2009’s “Survivor: Tocantins” and 2015’s “Survivor: Cambodia,” where he came second and ninth respectively. He became a fan-favorite for his thoughtful approach to the competition and has remained active in the “Survivor” community, blogging about the show and co-hosting the “Survivor Know-It-Alls” podcast alongside Rob Cesternino.

Fishbach’s Novel Gets Positive Reviews

While the release of the book is still a little way off, Parade also reports that it has already received a positive reception among some critics. This includes Emily Nussbaum of The New Yorker and New York Times bestselling author Jonathan Safran Foer.

“A thrilling, emotionally affecting deep dive into the perilous world of reality television production, in all its manipulative glory,” said Nissbaum. “… A gorgeously written, compassionate, but ultimately devastating portrait of the lives of the human beings working inside (and often, crushed by) the entertainment machine.”

Meanwhile, Foer writes,  “Stephen Fishbach writes with great energy and humor, as well as a deep understanding of human longing.”

Other ‘Survivor’ Alumni Also Releasing Books

Fishbach is not the only person connected with the reality television show who is releasing a book. Another favorite among fans, Rob Cesternino, has announced “The Tribe and I Have Spoken: The Definitive (Unofficial) Lore and Legacy from the Game’s Smartest Surviving Loser.”

Coming on May 5, 2026, Cesternino describes it as a love letter to “Survivor” that delves into the show’s history and chronicles the biggest and most controversial moments over the course of its many seasons.

Longtime “Survivor” host and producer Jeff Probst is also releasing a book ahead of the show’s milestone 50th season.  “Survivor: Forged in Fire” will include never-before-seen images, untold stories about some of the best-known players, and diary entries from the host.
