Voice Finale Night 1 Begins
Tonight’s it’s the Semi-Finals. The audience, which is filled with superfans and Voice alumni, will be voting tonight. We then see NBA legend Jimmy Butler come out to introduce the coaches.
KJ Willis – Team Legend
He said he is grateful to John Legend for keeping him on this journey, which he has been on since he was 14. John said his last performance was his best performance on the show. For this performance, he is singing “Higher Ground” by Stevie Wonder. John said he picked a song that would allow him to soar. It has the spirit and energy of a gospel song.
This was definitely a very upbeat song. He was up there with dancers and all. KJ was definitely having fun during this performance. He does have a strong voice, but I wasn’t feeling thing one like his last performance.
Coaches’ Feedback: Adam said he loved the major runs. Creatively speaking, he loved all of that. Kelly said that was one hell of a start. That was so incredible. John said he is growing in his own confidence and taking his space on stage.
Mikenley Brown – Team Kelly
She said it’s crazy that she has gone from delivering people’s food to singing on “The Voice” stage. For this performance, she’s singing “I’m Not The Only One” by Sam Smith. She is slowing it down for this one, but Kelly said she is making it her own. Kelly said her runs are everywhere, so she needs to dial those back some.
For the performance, something seemed off for this one. I have loved Mikenley heading into tonight’s episode, but this one seemed off to me. I was not overly impressed. She did have some good parts, but something didn’t work for me.
Coaches’ Feedback: John said this was easily her best performance. That rasp was really beautiful. Adam said this was a lot more of what we all loved about you. Kelly said believability is huge for her, and she buys it from her.
Jeremy Keith – Team Adam
He said this experience has given him another level of confidence. For tonight, he is singing “Whip Appeal” by Babyface. He said these types of songs are his niche. Adam said he is doing great with this song, but he wants him to take it even further.
For his performance, the background singer was finally taking the stage all on his own. He does hit some cool notes along the way. Maybe I am in a bad mood tonight, but again, I am not blown away by this performance. He definitely picked it up as the song went on and ended strongly.
Coaches’ Feedback: Kelly said he makes it look so easy. He has so many gears. John said this is his favorite performance of the show. It showed all the tools in his toolbox. Adam said he accomplished in this performance exactly what he came on this show to do.
Syd Millevoi – Team Legend
She said it feels so cool to be in the Semi-Finals, but didn’t think she’d make it this far. John wants that emotional connection. She is ready to be vulnerable for this performance. For this performance, she is singing “Into You” by Ariana Grande, but a stripped-down version. John wants to see that attitude come out.
Syd takes the stage, and she definitely has a huge voice. For the vulnerability, I am not sure about that. However, she can sing. I didn’t feel the connection, which may hurt her, but she can hit those notes.
Coaches’ Feedback: Adam said she has range. He applauds her for making it come from her heart. Kelly said she is a huge fan of her voice. She has such a gift. John said he loved how soulful she was. He loved how she embraced the energy of the song.
Jared Shoemaker – Team Adam
Jared said this is the song he wanted to sing this whole time on the show. Southern rock is his bread and butter. He will be singing “Soulshine” by the Allman Brothers Band. Adam said he can do everything, so believe in himself.
For his performance, I just love his voice. He has such a strong voice, and, as he said, this is his bread and butter. His voice just works for Southern rock. He has that rasp, but also shows off some great range. Jared hits some big notes along the way. I think he just appeals to a lot pf people, and I am a fan.
Coaches’ Feedback: Kelly said he impressed her more this week. John said it was compelling, and it showed a different side of him. Adam said he is a star. When he walks out, there is something iconic about him. He has this beautiful voice. He loves that he is who he is, and he is proud of him.
Liv Ciara – Team Kelly
She went from no chairs turning for her during season 28 to now being in the Semi-Finals on season 29. For this performance, she is singing “Flashdance…What a Feeling” by Irene Cara. Kelly said she is kind of crazy, as she created this beautiful version of this song. Kelly says her getting turned away last season was the fuel she needed, and she brings Kelly to tears!
For her performance, she immediately brought me in. This is a classic, but this arrangement is so different. She made me feel those lyrics, and I was mesmerized. She shows off a great range. Liv hits some huge notes, has some great runs, and I was just amazed. And to think, she is only 16 years old!
Coaches’ Feedback: John said that it was like a superstar performance. Adam said he is very sad right now. His sadness, she is not on his team. Right now, she could win this season. Kelly said she had zero to do with any of that. Liv had everything to do with that.
Alexia Jayy – Team Adam
She said she didn’t have any expectations coming into the show. For this performance, Alexia is singing “I Never Loved a Man (the Way I Love You)” by Aretha Franklin. Adam said she’s sang Whitney and now Aretha, so she needs to challenge herself more. He said it’s like an experience listening to her sing. Adam said Alexia Jayy should be a household name.
Ugh, that’s all I have to say. Her voice is something special. She hits some huge notes, but just makes you feel every word she is singing. She is taking us to church with this performance. It’s big and exactly what I want to see on a show like this.
Coaches’ Feedback: Kelly said she has been looking forward to this moment. She loves her so much. John said she is so wonderful, and she exudes so much creative and positive energy. Adam said she is the best singer ever, and he just loves her.
JW Griffin – Team Kelly
JW said he never thought he would get this far, but he also isn’t ready to go back and deliver bread. For this performance, he is singing “Angel Flying Too Close To The Ground” by Willie Nelson. Kelly said this is such a good song, and it’s such a pivotal moment. He said this song is all about emotion.
They all seem to love JW, but I just don’t get it. He has a strong country voice, but I don’t think he’s beyond amazing. This was a solid performance, though.
Coaches’ Feedback: John said it gave us a chance to appreciate the texture of his voice, and we needed that tonight. Adam said he can’t wait for him to make a record. Kelly said there is something so true and raw. What a blessing to have a voice that makes us feel amazing.
Lucas West – Team Legend
He said it would be incredible to be the one member to represent Team Legend in the finale. John said he has a really good shot of being in the finale. For this performance, he is singing “Maybe I’m Amazed” by Paul McCartney. Lucas feels this is a way to thank you to his supporters who helped him get her.
For his performance, I am always amazed when Lucas sings. His voice is so solid and strong. This was a good song choice for him. He hits those big, high notes along the way. Lucas ended the night with a strong performance.
Coaches’ Feedback: Adam said he loved how he brought up those big moments. There is something about his voice that is so captivating. Kelly said she thinks he would crush in a stadium performance. He is a great artist overall. John said he is the whole package. He has great taste in songwriting.
It’s now time for the audience to vote. They will vote for Team Legend’s and Team Adam’s top artist, and then the top two artists from Team Kelly. Results coming soon enough!
