NBC’s Fall 2026 schedule is seeing a small shakeup, with three new shows arriving. While many are likely looking out for “The Traitors: New Blood,” there’s a new comedy series hitting the airwaves in October, “Newlyweds.”
At first, it may come across as a regular comedy, and you may be on the fence. The casting is sure to pull you into this one, with Téa Leoni and Jamie Lee Curtis starring. NBC has released the first images, and they certainly give us a look at some fun moments to come.
What Is ‘Newlyweds’ About?
NBCDon’t let the name of the comedy fool you. While it is about a newly married couple, it’s not a couple in their youth. “Newlyweds” focuses on a couple later in their lives who decide to get married suddenly while caught up in their whirlwind of a relationship. Leoni plays Jeanie, a free-spirited woman who is ready for anything that life throws at her. Tim Daly takes on the role of James, Jeanie’s new husband, who is a buttoned-up professor, and it could suggest that he’s the one who will struggle the most with the new changes.
Curtis is part of the recurring guest cast, and the series will also star Emma Meisel, Ignacio Diaz-Silverio, and Bill O’Neill. The “Halloween” legend also serves as an executive producer on the series.
As the couple starts to blend their lives together, they realize that things aren’t as easy as they would seem. It’s so much easier when you’re younger and come with less baggage and, well, just general stuff! One of the elements of baggage is ex-partners, and that’s where Curtis comes in. She’ll play James’ ex-wife, Claudia, which is sure to bring up some interesting topics of conversation.
As for Jeanie, she comes with kids. Meisel and Diaz-Silverio will play her grown children, who are sure to have thoughts about their mother’s actions. Will they be too surprised?
There is even a fun real-life element to “Newlyweds,” as “The Naked Truth” star is married to Daly. They got married recently, so they’re playing fictionalized versions of themselves, in a way — heavily fictionalized! After all, they didn’t get married after a whirlwind romance. Leoni and Daly met on the set of “Madam Secretary” in 2014 and they started dating, only marrying in 2025.
Take a Look at ‘Newlyweds’
NBCNBC has released the first-look images of the pilot episode, which will air on Oct. 23, 2026, at 8:30/7:30c, It follows new episodes of “Happy’s Place,” which seems like the perfect slot for this type of show. Episodes will be available the following day on Peacock.
There’s a shot of an extremely well-dressed Claudia standing in the hallway, while Jeanie looks shocked to see her. Could this be the first meeting?
Then there’s a shot of the children on the couch, and they almost look traumatized by the conversation that is going on. Meanwhile, Jeanie just looks on with a smile.

NBC
NBCNBC is set to bring a hopefully strong comedy lineup with the returning shows “St. Denis Medical,” “Happy’s Place,” and “The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins.” The two mockumentary-style shows will air Mondays, while the traditional sitcoms will kick off Friday nights in style.
The “Freaky Friday” star decided that it was time to create her own sitcom, after asking her agents for years to find her one. She told Deadline, “It’s my favorite job, I love the whole part of it, every aspect of it, the dance with the cameras, the idea that you actually get to rehearse something and work it and learn a joke and play it. I just never got to do it, and so I just decided to basically kind of create my own job. I met Gail, and that’s why we are all here.”
At the same time, Leoni and Daly wanted to work together and do something lighter after their “Madam Secretary” days together, and this seemed like the perfect show. There are many turning back to comedy to find something entertaining and light, so there is hope that “Newlyweds” will become the next must-watch show.
“Newlyweds” will premiere on Oct. 23. A trailer hasn’t been released yet, but there’s sure to be one in the coming weeks.
