HGTV Star Reveals She Was Turned Down for Her Own Cooking Show

HGTV star Jenn Todryk will have to stick with home renovations because it doesn’t look like her other dream, starring in her own cooking show, will become a reality.

The “No Demo Reno” star opened up about her crushed dream in an Instagram Story on Tuesday, February 24.

HGTV Gets Turned Down by Food Network

Todryk took to social media to reveal she was once turned down from hosting her own show on Food Network.

“Fun fact: I always wanted a cooking show,” Todryk began in her message to fans. “In fact, I went to the head of Food Network because I used to work with her when she was over at HGTV. I was like, ‘Girl, I want a cooking show.’ And I’m dead serious. And she was like, ‘Jen, you’re not an expert. We cannot give you a Food Network show.'”

She continued, “I was like, ‘Who wants an expert?! There’s so many of those!’ I don’t want an expert. I want to click on and I want to relate to the lady who worked today and is struggling to figure out what the heck to cook for dinner. The girl who loved cooking until she had a full family, who has very picky needs, and now she cooks because they have to live.”

While she may not be cooking up anything for fans from the kitchen, HGTV viewers will hopefully be able to see Todryk in the kitchen on “No Demo Reno.”

Was ‘No Demo Reno’ Been Canceled?

The beloved renovation specialist shared an update with fans on the status of her hit series back in September.

“I had a show on HGTV.. well… HAVE a show on HGTV called ‘No Demo Reno,'” Todryk said during a September 2025 episode of her “You, Me & Mike” podcast.

According to her husband, Mike Todryk, her most asked question is whether or not “No Demo Reno” was canceled.

“Did I get canceled? Did. I. Get. Canceled? Did I get cancelled?” she repeated. “No, I did not get cancelled. The show, ‘No Demo Reno,’ did not get cancelled. That is 100 percent the biggest DM I get, I can’t even go on Amazon Live without getting comments and I feel so bad because I haven’t been in a place to answer it or talk about it.”

She went on to say that she is “on a pause” from filming.

“I was talking with them for probably four months about how can we still do this show, ‘No Demo Reno’ but how can I basically off-load some of the responsibility onto a team or more people to where it can still live on but I can take a step back?” she explained. “I basically had to come to the realization that I’m either all-in and I’m over everything or I don’t do it.”

  1. Jenn, NOTHING surprises me much anymore!!! Food Network turned you down, how crazy is that? We NEED a regular person to show us ways to cook that will truly help us!!! We DON’T need all the Foo Foo Stuff!!! It sounds to me like Food Network & HGTV have lost sight of what WE THE PEOPLE WANT AND LOVE!!!
